Song sung by fans near end of English football matches

Another one was -

A-propos the Guantanamera-tuned chant ‘There’s only one Dah-Dah Da-da’…(any player with two syllables in first and last name).

After a well-known Scottish International Goalkeeper, Andy Goram, admitted he had a very mild form of schizophrenia, opposition fans immediately started chanting ‘Two Andy Gorams, there’s only two Andy Gorams’.

This song took on a huge amount of meaning after the Hillsborough disaster in 1985, where 96 people died and 766 people were injured. I have never have a dry eye when I hear this song by a soccer crowd. It is sung in honour of those people.

In Australia all football (AFL) clubs have a song that is sung when your team wins.

  1. Heysel and Bradford were in 1985.

Roughly a decade or so ago, Newcastle United had a defender called Habib Beye:
“Monday, Tuesday, Habib Beye. Wednesday, Thursday, Habib Beye…”

I’d forgotten about that one, genius.

Don’t know if it has already been linked to but here are some corkers.

While waiting to be taken off a sinking RN ship during the Falklands war, I understand the crew sang “Always Look At The Bright Side Of Life”.
