Songs About Clothes?

“I want a girl with a short skirt and a looooong … jacket.”

What about Look Sharp? (All I can think about is the pic of those shoes on the cover)

And Man in the Green Shirt (old Weather Report tune, just an instrumental but still)

See post #33.

“Where Did You Get That Hat?”

Then try to ever forget it. Heh heh heh heh.

I was gonna post that! I had almost 10 years and you beat me by a matter of hours!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Panties in Your Purse- Drive-By Truckers
Fred’s New Dress- Kicking Harold
Kerosene Hat- Cracker

Out of the Wardrobe–The Kinks

Dunno how I missed this 9 years ago. Lists never go out of style!

“Thigh High Nylons” - Mustard Plug

“Doctor Martens Boots” - Alexi Sayle

“Pajama People” - Frank Zappa

Great - probably should’ve read this ancient thread before posting, so disregard my previous post.
However I’m quite surprised to see no Mitch Ryder’s “Devil With the Blue Dress On”.

I’m sorry but that kind of makes my day.

Not going to go through three pages of posts to see if these have been mentioned yet.

"White on White"
White on white, lace on satin
Blue velvet ribbons on her bouquet
White on white, lace on satin
My little angel is getting married today

Here she comes in her wedding gown, looking like a queen
"Scarborough Fair"
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Without no seams nor needle work,
Then she’ll be a true love of mine.

I’m gonna rouge my knees
And roll my stockings down
And all that jazz
<snip>
Slick your hair
and wear you buckle shoes
And all that jazz
<snip>
Oh, she’s gonna shimmy
Till her garters break
And all that jazz

“She was a long, cool woman in a black dress”…The Hollies

And in a yellow taxi turn to me and smile”…Joe Jackson, Steppin’ Out

Something a little more recent…

“Stylin’, while I’m, livin’ it up in the city
Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent
Gotta kiss myself, so pretty” - Uptown Funk

The first thing that popped into my head on reading the title is Macklemore’s Thrift Shop and its list of clothes acquired from there–being a parody of rappers who would brag about their rich clothes and such. While more lines in the song reference clothes, and the video is full of them, here are the lines that specifically mention them:

Dressed in all pink, ‘cept my gator shoes, those are green
Draped in a leopard mink, girls standin’ next to me
Probably shoulda washed this, smells like R. Kelly’s sheets
[…]
Velour jumpsuit and some house slippers
Dookie brown leather jacket that I found diggin’
[…]
Thank your granddad for donating that plaid button-up shirt
'Cause right now I’m up in her skirt
[…]
I’ll take those flannel zebra jammies, second-hand, I rock that motherfucker
The built-in onesie with the socks on that motherfucker
[…]
They be like, “Oh, that Gucci - that’s hella tight.”
I’m like, “Yo - that’s fifty dollars for a T-shirt.”
Limited edition, let’s do some simple addition
Fifty dollars for a T-shirt - that’s just some ignorant bitch (shit)
[…]
I wear your granddad’s clothes
I look incredible
I’m in this big ass coat
From that thrift shop down the road
