Songs: I Love Her, She Loves Him

So in short succession, I heard on the radio “Watching Her Watching Him” by Eric Hutchinson and “Love Lies Bleeding” by Elton John, so it got me in a mood.

What are songs about a singer singing about his/her love for another, who in turn is interested in someone else.

I’m less interested in songs about Jealousy or Winning Her/Him Back, and more songs about acceptance, observation, or recognition of the truth of a situation that the singer can do little about (whether it be unrequited or regretful).

Great American Songbook, classic rock or recent hits, what songs fit the bill for you?

J. Geils Band, Love Stinks:

Rick Springfield Jessie’s Girl sprang to mind instantly… I’m old…

James Blunt’s You’re Beautiful sort of fits

“Not That Girl” from Wicked.

“Anna (Go to Him)” by Arthur Alexander and later covered by the Beatles. It was also the inspiration for a great Married with Children episode. Al hears it on the radio but can’t identify it. The only part of the song he can recall is “hmmm hmmm him” (hmmm in place of the actual words). He eventually does identify it and buys the record, but Kelly’s date accidentally destroys it.

The thread title immediately brought to my mind the lyric “I think of her, but she thinks only of him,” from the Beatles’ “Baby’s in Black.”

Diary by Bread I think meets all of your criteria.

Layla?

My Best Friend’s Girl, The Cars

Belle & Sebastian’s “Jonathan David.”

*I know you like her
Well, I like her too, I know she likes you
It’s not as if I’m being sent off to war
There are worse things in this world
There’s still room in my wooden horse for two
I was Jonathan to your David, you’re still King *

Symarip - Stay With Him

Journey Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’

When I’m alone all by myself
You’re out with someone else
Lovin’, touchin’, squeezin’ each other
:frowning:

Na na na na na na
Na na na na na
:stuck_out_tongue:

My single favorite vocal performance by John Lennon, in spite of the confused lyric:

“…You say he loves you more than me, so I will set you free, go to him…”

The other guy loves you more than he loves me. Kinky.

CeeLo’s “Forget You” IOW…

Gladys Knight & the Pips’ “If I Were Your Woman”:

You’re like a diamond
But she treats you like glass
Yet you beg her to love you
And me you don’t ask
The Grass Roots’ “Midnight Confession”:

A little gold ring you wear on your hand
Makes me understand
There’s another before me, you’ll never be mine
I’m wasting my time

“How” by Guy Sebastian

How could he ever love you
The way I could?
Oh, and how could he ever hold you
The way I would?
If you only knew
Each night what I go through
While my heart is breaking
You’re out making
Someone else’s dreams come true
