Songs indelibly linked to a movie

I think you’re talking about “Princes of the Universe.” I agree – that’s a good one.

Actually Bad to the Bone is best associated with Al Bundy. I know Married with Children isn’t a movie but…
How about the Kingsmen - Louie, Louie linked to Animal House?
Sam and Dave - Hold On I’m Coming linked to the Blues Brothers

Yeah, that’s it. whenever it comes on I always think of Highlander.

There’s kindof an obscure movie from 1977 with Henry Winkler and Harrison Ford called Heroes. I don’t remember any of the details, I just recall that Henry Winkler played a Viet Nam vet who (possibly) escaped from (or voluntarily signed out of) a mental hospital in search of some of his Nam buddies. As I recall, he slowly sunk into despair as his friends, one by one, abandoned him and he couldn’t fulfill his dream of starting (yes, you’re reading it right) a worm farm. I was 16 when I saw it and it was probably a really, really bad movie, but I’ll never forget crying when they rolled the credits while playing Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas. And I still can’t hear that song and not think of that movie.

Also, there’s…

Up Where We Belong by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes, from An Officer and a Gentleman

Take a Look at Me Now by Phil Collins, from Against All Odds

and of course,

Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do) by Christopher Cross, from Arthur

My sharona- Reality Bites

Ace of Spades- Grosse Point Blank

Mickey- Bring it On

I missed this one earlier. That Ravel tune always makes me think of the movie “10” with Bo Derek.

Mrs. Robinson & Sounds of Silence from The Graduate

I think this piece of schlok-rock got quite enough radio play before T2. (I don’t associate it with the movie at all.)

Next it’s going to be used in a cat food commercial. Can’t you just see it?

O Fortuna! O Forliver!

Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me offa my knees
Jack, get back
C’mon before we crack
Lose
your blues
Everybody cut footloose

“O mio babbino caro” (from Puccini’s opera Gianni Schicchi) and A Room with a View

Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper and Strictly Ballroom

I remember George Thorogood’s “Bad to the Bone” from Christine (1983). Didn’t it play over the opening credits?

Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty = Tom Cruise driving in Jerry McGuire

Also from Animal House: the scene where Steven what’s-his-name is playing guitar on the stairs inside the frat house – the song goes “I bought my love a flower” or something inane like that. I actually met the composer a couple of years ago; he also wrote the theme for Tootsie. He’s sort of odd.

Robin hood: prince of thieves - everything i do, i do for you (or whatever)

Slow Ride - Dazed and Confused

Town Called Malice - Billy Elliot

It Had to be You - When Harry Met Sally

Cosmic Slop - PCU

“Satellite of Love”- Velvet Goldmine
“Choose Life”- Trainspotting
“Beyond the Sea”- A Life Less Ordinary

And yes, I am a bit of a Ewan McGregor fan.

“The End” by the Doors: Apocalypse Now

“Alice’s Restaurant” (the song): Alice’s Restaurant (the movie)

“Comin’ Back to Me” (Jefferson Airplane): Flashback

“Foxey Lady” by Jimi Hendrix = Wayne’s World

“That’s Amore” sung by Dino = Moonstruck

“The Candyman” = Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

“What a Feeling” & “Maniac” = Flashdance

“Katmandu” by Bob Seger = Mask (not The Mask)

“You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones = The Big Chill

“Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye = High Fidelity
