Songs separated at birth

I’m sure I’m not the only person who hears some songs and immediately thinks of another, having somehow paired the two in our minds. What songs have you associated with each other, though? And why does one make you think of the other?

The first to come to mind are:
“She’s Not There” by the Zombies and “Undun” by The Guess Who
“Never Say Never” by Romeo Void and “Sleep Together” by Garbage

In both cases I make the associations based on the lyrics rather than the music.

“Lovesong” by The Cure/311 and “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House. I have no idea how these two got associated in my mind but I ALWAYS think of one when I hear the other.

Be My Yoko - by The Bobs
Be My Yoko Ono - by Barenaked Ladies
I Won’t Be Your Yoko Ono - by Dar Williams

Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound” & Poco’s “Crazy Love”.

“All By Myself” by Eric Carmen and “I Can’t Live” by Harry Nilson.

I would love to hear a duet of “There’s Me” from Starlight Express and “Think of Me” from Phantom of the Opera.

Along those lines, there’s “Somewhere That’s Green” from *Little Shop of Horrors *(the movie musical version)

And “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid

Both by the same songwriting duo, Menken and Ashman.

For a long time, whenever I would hear the opening riff of George Harrison’s “What Is Life”, I always thought it was BTO. But not any song in particular, so I guess that doesn’t count…

I challenge anyone to listen to the acoustic reprise of Wilco’s “Outta Mind Outta Site” (the one on the second disc of “Being There”) without instantly thinking of the theme to “Sesame Street”.

Oh, and I always think the music played just before commercials during the Tampa Bay Bucs games sounds just like that Christmas song, “Sleigh Ride” (giddy up, giddy up, giddy up let’s go).

I always have to stop and think about it if I’m hearing Belinda Carlisle’s “I Get Weak” or Liz Phair’s “Why Can’t I?”

To me, these two are triplets, with “Alone Again, Naturally” by Gilbert O’Sullivan.

Lust For Life - Town Called Malice.

“Long Cool Woman” by the Hollies/“Bad Moon Risin’” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Probably not really what the OP is looking for since there was legal action involving all of these but:

“She’s so Fine”, “My Sweet Lord”

“Good Golly Miss Molly”, “Travelin’ Band”

“Sweet Little Sixteen”, “Surfin’ USA”

Don’t forget “Ice, Ice Baby” and “Under Pressure”.

Come ON! Those songs are, like, totally DIFFERENT!

Heard the first few bars of “Superfreak” on the radio the other day, and Mr. S and I both broke out with, “Can’t touch this (doo doo doo doo)” . . .

(Yes, I know that one was sampled from the other.)

Whew! I’m not just imagining it, then. I almost always have to hum the next line of music from “Sleigh Ride” whenever I hear the football song!

Shania Twain’s Honey I’m Home always made me think of Def Leppard’s* Let’s Get Rocked*. I was some time in realizing why, until one day I had a :smack: moment. It finally occurred to me–Shania’s hubby=Def Leppard’s producer. And of course, he writes music for both. When I looked it up, Wikipedia confirmed the Mutt Lange was a co-writer on both songs.

The first thing I thought of was “Daisy” (= “Bicycle Build for Two”) and “The Sidewalks of New York.”
