Songs that give you chills (good or bad)

Also this game soundtrack, too:

"Chills"by Grey Eye Glances. Scalp-prickles. Gets me every time.

“Wait for Me” by Moby, especially if you have ever dealt with addiction.

Lisa Gerrard - “Sacrifice”

That voice. So weird and wonderful.

Kilkelly Ireland

An Irish song that tells a very sad story. I’m enough of a man to admit that this one gets to me every single time.

“Star Me Kitten”"-R.E.M.

Janis Joplin’s version of Me and Bobby McGee, when she sings, “I’d trade all of my tomorrows, for a single yesterday”.

I’ve been waiting many moons to use this phrase and now finally something deserves it.

“That shit is so good. Fuck.” -some guy from Buzzfeed

It’s got to be, “At Last”, sung by Ms. Etta James…besides her voice, it’s the most perfect musical arrangement…that G Augmented lead-in is tingling

Sad… Sinead O’Connor’s cover of Nothing Compares 2U. No matter how many times I’ve heard it, I still get chills.

Creepy… Gallows by CocoRosie.

You want chills, I’ll give you chills

One that gives me the scary chills is “Guilt” by Marianne Faithfull

“If I could get away with murder
I’d take my gun and I’d commit it”

It really is. Glad you liked it. As you can probably tell from my other nominations, I’m not really in Disturbed’s target demographic. When I first listened to it at the recommendation of a heavy metal fan friend, I had the volume turned way down because I expected it to get shouty and awful. But…fuck. That shit is so good. Even my *mom *loves it.

Fuck. I love good cover. That is some powerful shit right there.

Another one for Mitchell - River does it to me, every time. I might just need to buy a copy of Blue.

Good lord, Disturbed’s version of that song is absolutely stunning. just…wow…

Check out the isolated vocal track done by Freddie Mercury for “We are the Champions”:

The sighing backing vocals to Lovedrug’s “Happy Apple Poison” always makes me remember what heartbreak feels like.

The last verse of “The Boxer” by Simon & Garfunkel.

I think to induce chills in me generally requires some sort of haunting melody with ‘pure’ sounding, yet at the same time highly emotional, vocals. When these two come together it ends up really feeling like the music means something and I get a feeling like I’ve just been punched in the gut by love - almost blissfully pained, scarcely able to breath. The reaction lessens each time, of course, but always when the singer raises his/her voice for that one specific line or in that one spot where the music really starts to swell - I get the chills, not thinking about the first time I fell in love with it, but thinking “Oh my god listen to this.”

Superstar - The Carpenters . Beautiful vocals, fantastic songwriting, and that swelling chorus that makes you join. Trivia: Everybody likes this song.

Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O’Connor - Stripped down Prince cover that focuses on her voice. It feels real and beautiful all at once. You can tell it’s magic from the start, but by the time she says “I can eat my dinner in a fancy rest-au-ra-a-ant” the chills rise.

Wonderwall - Ryan Adams - Maybe, for me, it’s because it ties into girl memories - but I think even before then it raised chills. Noel Gallagher, who is notoriously difficult, loved this version and even sort of adopted it in shows after it came out. Sparse, simple, and slow, but featuring Adams’s haunting vocals sung like it just means everything - this song definitely raises chills.
