Damn you Euryphaessa!
The version I posted has the (imho) better more heart rending video clip (and bunnies of course)

Song To The Siren by Tim Buckley.

“Here I am, waiting to hold you.”

Link goes to David Gray"s version:

Aggressive underground rapper Immortal Technique’s “You Never Know” breaks my heart every time.

Snow Patrol - You Could Be Happy. It’s probably the most depressing non-country song I’ve ever heard.

As for country songs, Alan Jackson’s Remember When usually does the trick.

Thanks to this link, I also found that same group’s version of the song There Were Roses (link goes to another version because theirs isn’t on YouTube, apparently) and now that song gets me a little teary-eyed.

Cold Missouri Waters by Cry, Cry, Cry gets me every single time I listen to it.

More country songs:

Wedding Bells Will Never Ring For Me - Hank Williams
A Picture Of Me Without You - George Jones
Monday Mornin’ Church - Alan Jackson
Today My World Slipped Away - Vern Gosdin/George Strait
The Good Stuff - Kenny Chesney
Concrete Angel - Martina McBride

also, non-breakup/death songs about struggling farmers touch a nerve, being from a farm family:

Cafe Down On The Corner - Sawyer Brown
Amarillo Sky - Jason Aldean
Where Corn Don’t Grow - Travis Tritt
