The song “moving in stereo” by the Cars frightened me and my siblings.
For me it was “Good Vibrations”: the electrotheremin sounded like whatever had been used to make the fake UFO sound on an episode of The Brady Bunch. That episode had frightened me, and for a while whenever “Good Vibrations” came on the radio I had to turn it off.
I’ve had Tubular Bells 2 practically since its release in 1992: my favorite track is a 7-minute piece called “The Bell,” which has instrument announcements by the glorious Alan Rickman. As much as I love it I’ve never bothered to look into Tubular Bells (or Tubular Bells 3), so I’ve never heard the Viv Stanshall version (and didn’t know it existed).
I found the Beatles’s “For the Benefit of Mr. Kite!” and “Blue Jay Way” both kind of scary and unsettling when I was very young. Also Chicago’s “Wishing You Were Here,” but not quite as strongly.
In 15 years, no one has mentioned “1999”? Loved that song as a kid, except for the end. The little kid asking why everybody has a bomb? Creepy as fuck. Gah!
I thought he meant the Zombies’ “Care of Cell 44.”
What WAS she in prison for, anyway?..it was…MURDER, wasn’t it? Or something worse?
How do you know what song he’s talking about?
