I’m sure Petty could do an acoustic version justice. I mean, he’s Petty after all. But the John Mayer commercial bull$h*t I was hearing at work? His whiny voice, same vocal inflection throughout… ugh. John Mayer should have left well enough alone.
Slash is a guitar god. If you love rock, get his post-GNR stuff, the Snakepit and all that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltjbnyvq_SI Here’s Coulton. And it’s almost romantic.
Now… everybody polka!
I have nothing against GOOD acoustic versions. It happens. And sometimes it’s really cool. But I’m railing against the “pussified” versions. My fiancee plays acoustic guitar and sometimes he does some really cool acoustic versions of songs I know and love… and that’s great. But Clapton turning a classic rock song about his love for this amazingly powerful chick into some whiny acoustic thing? John Mayer and company whining over classic chord structures? Give me a break.
“Killing In The Name,” by Rage Against the Machine.
Also “Girls, Girls, Girls” by Motley Crue.
“Fuck Tha Police” by NWA.
Jesus Q. Christ, that is horrifying.
That video fails the Internet.
Heh, heh, heh. Check out Track 8 from Guster here.
Dynamite Hack could probably handle that.
I suppose I should pre-emptively mention Richard Cheese. After the aforementioned Weird Al, he is probably the leader in the acoustic cover market.
I wish Foo Fighters would stop playing the acoustic version of Everlong.
This is how Everlong should be played.
It’s pretty special, ain’t it?
There is a pretty interesting acoustic cover of Lady Gaga - Poker Face that is surprisingly good. Seems like it shouldn’t be done, but it’s not half bad.
We’re Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister
Well, it’s not really a cover if Lady Gaga’s doing her own song, but yeah, it’s not bad at all.’
Which reminds me…
My Humps. Not quite acoustic, but arranged by Alanis Morrisette.
Technically, this version is acoustic
The Model in acoustic form. It started already kind of poppy, so it works much better.
