Songs to Commit Suicide To...

I’d put Revolver in. For no reason other than if it’s the last album/song I ever listen to, it better be the best damn album/song ever recorded.

“My Way” - Frank Sinatra

The Sid Vicious version has its charm, but I think it would cheapen the occasion.

Bach’s Cantata BWV 82, “Ich Habe Genug.”

, Leonard Cohen.

“Feelings” - Morris Albert
“Honey” - Bobby Goldsboro
“Disco Duck” - Rick Dees
Preferably all three in some sort of twisted DJ house party mix.

“Goodbye, cruel world” - Pink Floyd

And you’d have to killyour girlfriend first!

No one has mentioned Don’t Fear The Reaper?!

NOTHING by Ozzy.
The poor guy would get accused and he doesn’t deserve that.
Turn it around and make it something by Celine Dion"See! Her music causes suicides!!!"

Here’s a similar thread I started last month if you want more suggestions.

Here’s some of my favorites, several of which I discovered from posts in that thread:

Eels - “Electroshock Blues,” also “The Medication is Wearing Off”

Assemblage 23 - “Cocoon”

The Smiths - “Asleep”

Dream Theater - “Hollow Years”

Jimi Hendrix - “Castles Made of Sand”

Joy Division - “Atmosphere,” “Love Will Tear us Apart,” and most of their other stuff; Ian Curtis was a sad guy.

Joe Satriani - “Cryin’”

Not a song, but a piece of classical:

Adagio for Strings

Would even make Kathy Lee wanna jump (hey, I guess its not all bad ;))

Ice Ice Baby

If I ever went, I’d be playing Entry Of The Gladiators over and over, at full volume.

Doot-doot dootle-ootle BANG!!! doot-doot doo-doo…

Mr.Lonely…Bobby Vinton

“Lonely, I’m Mr.Lonely…I am So Lonely That I Could Cryyyyyy
ah ayyyyyyy …I’m Mr. Loney”

                         BANG!

Noone’s mentioned my favorite:
Suicide is Painless (Mash Theme Song)
(Mike Altman and Johnny Mandel)

Through early morning fog I see
Visions of the things to be,
The pains that are withheld for me,
I realize and I can see…

That suicide is painless,
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.

Etc. http://sniff.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/pages/tiSUICIDE.html

The song was sung only in the movie version, but the music started every TV MASH episode.

Anything by Radiohead. That’s what it was intended for, right?

What no Suicide is Painless or Don’t Fear the Reaper yet?

What about Lucky, or their cover of Rhinestone Cowboy, or Anyone Can Play Guitar, or Planet Telex, or Subterranean Homesick Alien, or You And Whose Army, or…

I could go on. Look, not all of Radiohead’s stuff is depressing. But if you’re going to pick one song by them…

Motion Picture Soundtrack. Even I, an athiest, believe that it’s the song that you hear when you’re going to the afterlife, no matter how your life ended. Harps. Organs that sound as old as time itself. Final lyric? “I will see you/in the next life.” It ends with a roar of noise, and then a few minutes of silence. An incredibly inspiring song.

Girl!
I mentioned that!

Girl!
I mentioned that!

Alright, lemme think…

Sarah MacLachlan - Angel (For intentional overdoses)
Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely
Cat Power - Water and Air
Cat Power - Ice Water
(I paraphrase some critic or another: “Giving a depressed person a Cat Power record would be like giving a suicidal person a gun.”)
Marilyn Manson - Coma White
Sarah MacLachlan - Sweet Surrender (DJ Tiesto Remix required)
Placebo - My Sweet Prince
