Songs to Commit Suicide To...

Close dan. Right group, wrong song.

Gotta be “The Final Cut” by Floyd. Just an incredibly depressing song about . . .you guessed it - suicide.

Oh god, how could I have forgotten?

Aimee Mann - Wise Up

Hell, that song stands a decent chance of getting someone to kill themself even if they weren’t depressed when it started.

Hmmm…I didn’t want to kill myself (well, sorta I did…I was 14, and “in love” and he broke UP with me for a girl I introduced him to, dammit!!) but “I Can’t Live (If Living is Without You)” by Harry Nilsson pretty much used to fit the bill for me.

Now I just remember it fondly as a “first love” song.

“DOA” by Bloodrock should make everybody want to kill themselves. It’s the scariest, weirdest song ever made. I had nightmares hearing that song back in the bad ol’ days. I wouldn’t listen to it now if you paid me.

No kidding!
I first heard it on Dr.Demento.
You describe it correctly.

Cat Stevens “Trouble”- put to use in both HAROLD AND MAUDE and an ER episode in which I thought the NewsRadio lady’s Mom (Sally Fields) was going to die but didn’t (did she?)

Found listening to:

It’s My Party.
Take a Look at Me Now.

Or if I can arrange a gunshot to the back of my head:
Sea Of Love.

Second for The Smiths, Asleep… I mean, it sounds like it was specifically written for the task.

The Smiths, “I know its Over”… if you’re killing yourself over a lost love. “Oh mother, I can feel… the soil falling over my head!”

The Smiths, “That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore.” … “I’ve seen this happen, it other people’s lives… and now, its happening in mine…”

Metallica, “Fade to Black”
Kind of surprised that one hadn’t been mentioned yet.

D

Ah…Pink Floyd.

How 'bout “Comfortably Numb”?

How about something like… Amazing Grace or Rock of Ages?

No, not Def Leppard. You know, just in case.

Although the Ferry Corsten remix of William Orbit’s version might just make you want to dance.

I’ll throw in Perfect Kiss by New Order.

Has nobody mentioned “Gloomy Sunday” - any version

Warning by Incubus

I’ll second Gary Jules’s Mad World

What about Joy Division’s “Substance” after taking some pills and slipping the ol’ plastic bag over your head? Or maybe some Elliot Smith? Maybe a little “All Apologies/You Know You’re Right” combo? Those guys were’nt just funnin’ around with their depressing lyrics. Personally, I had a very vivid dream a few years back where I was shot several times in the face, and as I was blacking out/dying, I distinctly heard Roy Orbison playing softly in the distance. I have to say it was as comforting as any music I could have hoped for.

A few more:
*Raining in Baltimore or Have You Seen Me Lately by the Counting Crows (Adam Duritz writes what are possibly the most depressing and lonely lyrics EVER)
*Moon River by Andy Williams
*Tomorrow is a Long Time by Bob Dylan
*Solitude by Billie Holiday
or
*Line of Best Fit by Death Cab for Cutie (good suicide band)

Hey Man Nice Shot, natch.

It may be about suicide, but “Goodbye, Cruel World” most definitely is. “The Final Cut” is much more subtle.

(I never really considered “The Final Cut” to be a suicide song, just one of lament.)

“Crucify” or a number of other songs by Tori Amos.

“Always look on the bright side of life” or “Don’t worry, be happy”

Beborn Beton - Another World
