Songs where one person stops loving another person

Doesn’t have to be romantic love, but I assume most songs will be. However songs about parents/children, or friendships, or nephews/aunts, or whatever are perfectly acceptable.

Basically songs where a person loses their love and interest in someone else.

Red Ragtop by Tim McGraw. Thats all I got right now.

Probably not what you meant but it’s just too obvious.

He Stopped Loving Her Today

There’s Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” about how unfulfilling it is to be a stay-at-home Mom.

George Strait’s “I Can Still Make Cheyenne”.

Paradise by the Dashboard Light

Gee, I just watched this video:

SOFI TUKKER - Benadryl (Official Video) [Ultra Music]

From Sofi Tukker
Benadryl is a break up song. It’s about loving yourself enough to let something go that isn’t working. The video, directed by the crazy and wonderful Phillip Lopez, is an interpretation of two worlds: the one we are trapped in and the colorful one we are trying to free ourselves into. Ultimately, the gateway to freedom is the support of other women. There’s also something really underwater-y about the song: kind of like being on Benadryl, it’s soupy and languid and we wanted to capture that feeling.
There is the classic by Mary Chapin Carpenter:
Mary Chapin Carpenter - “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her” Lyrics

And the song by the great songwrtiter Paula Cole who had a lamentably short career:
Paula Cole-Where have all the cowboys gone

Last, but not least, the great anthem by Nancy Sinatra:
Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ (1966)

ETA: Dang, Wheelz beat me to He thinks he’ll keep her. Good job, Wheelz!

Teddy Pendergrass I Don’t Love You Anymore

“Don’t You Want Me”, Human League, based on the various versions of the “A Star is Born” story.

Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand You Don’t Bring Me Flowers

Gladys Knight and the Pips Neither One of Us

The Thrill is Gone by B.B. King

You Don’t Love Me by the Allman Brothers

Probably a lot of blues songs.

Are these the kind of songs you are referring to?
Paul Carrack “Don’t Shed A Tear”
Roberta Flack / Donny Hathaway “Where is the Love” (1972)

Silver Lining by Rilo Kiley. Includes the awesome line “I never felt so wicked, as when I willed our love to die”. Really you have to hear Jenny Lewis sing it for the full effect.

Not really on topic, but the whole album it’s from, Under the Blacklight, is fantastic

First one I thought of too!!

Dolly’s To Daddy

and if your SO starts singing this to you, you know its over:

**How Can I Miss You If You Won’t Go Away **(Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks)

50 Ways to Leave Your Lover by Paul Simon.

Beatles “I’m looking through you.”

Bill Morrissey “Walk Down These Streets”

Dee Carstenson “The Last Time it Mattered”

Probably half the songs on Aimee Mann’s “Whatever” album.
“I could hurt you now”, “Stupid thing”

Ferron “Ain’t Life a Brook”

Billy Bragg/June Tabor “Valentine’s Day is Over”

Kathleen Edwards “Asking for Flowers”

Carla Ryder Band “Three Mondays Gone”

Dave Mason “We Just Disagree”

Kenny Rogers: Lucille

Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Cold Shot” is sung from the point of view of a man whose woman has stopped loving him.

Elise Trouw - Burn - Live Looping Video

Watch Elise Trouw do her one-woman band act. Amazing. Plus a bonus drum solo at the end.

How about “Puff the Magic Dragon”? Whether it’s an homage to drugs, or an allegory about lost childhood, or whatever - If you take it literally, Puff is sad at the end because Jackie Paper doesn’t come around anymore.

Think by Aretha Franklin
Someone I used to Know by Gotye
Beds Too Big Without You by The Police
Can’t Stand Losing You by The Police
