Songs You Hate To Admit You Use to Like

Since I a haven’t been doing so well with what looks good on women threads lately, I thought I would touch on another subject. Although it is much more fun to discuss women than music, I will touch on music this time and I will touch on women another time. (oops that didn’t come out right)

Anyway what songs from your past did you use to like but would hate to admit it now. But see you can admit them now because of the anominous nature of being on the net. (we would like be anyway)

Ok I use to like “Love Can Keep Us Together” by the captain and the Tneal.(sp) Any thing from the Bee Gees you know during the disco times. And I can’t forget “I’m a Little Bit and You’re a little Bit Rock & Roll” from dasturly(sp) duo Donie and Marie.

So what about ya’ll? What songs did you use to like but hate to admit it now?

Hell, I still like them.

Muskrat Love
Metal Health
The entire Grease Soundtrack

I haven’t turned my back on ANY of them!

Keep the faith, baby!

I used to like The Nelson’s song After the Rain. I even had their cassette about 10-11 years ago. I thought they were so hot! Just last week I was at lunch with some colleagues from work and that song came on the radio and I was shocked (and a little embarassed) that I still knew the words to it! I also liked their dad’s music too. [sub]and his movie Love and Kisses![/sub]

“Come on Ireen”
“The Patty Duke theme song” (I’ve embarassed myself with drunkin’ renditions of this one a couple times)
“I got you babe”
“Break my stride” (Name?? The song by Matt Wilder)

Hey! That’s ‘Come On Eileen’!

-Jonathan “Guess what his wife’s name is” Chance

I wouldn’t be nearly as happy as I am if I tried to function without The Bee Gees Greatest Hits on hand.

When I was little bitty, I really loved Music Box Dancer. Now I can’t hear it without shoving my fingers in my ears on instinct. Ghastly song. In fact, I get to try to ignore it twice a day just lately because the ice cream truck blares it.

Too Legit to Quit by Hammer. I still like this song, too.

But one that I am somewhat ashamed to liking when I was little is…sigh…Kris Kross’s Totally Krossed Out. I still have the CD, but never listen to it anymore.

Spooky…it came on my radio exactly as I read the name on the screen.
I always liked “mmmm mmmm mmmm mmmm” by the Crash Test Dummies. I mean, I don’t like it like it, but if it ever comes on, I shut everyone up so I can hear it.

frobozz:

I love when that stuff happens. Check out this thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=82160

“MMMBop” by Hanson. I’m so ashamed.

My God, do I adore the Grease soundtrack. I’m listening to Broadway recording of it right now.
I also love the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, specifically Night on Disco Mountain.

“Open Arms” by Journey. Possibly the sappiest love song of all time. But I like it.

Still like 'em, leading some to question my mental health:

Love Will Keep Us Together/ The Captain and Tenille

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down/ Joan Baez

Lotsa songs by Abba

I still have my Nelson “After the Rain” CD. Good ghod, those guys are shetland ponies!

Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Great White

Just about anything that hit MTV by Poison or Guns and Roses.

Cherry Pie by Warrant.

Just about any bad 80’s song, really.
-Ben

Cherokee Nation by Mark Lindsay? Also sang for Paul Revere and the Raiders
Half-Breed and Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves by Cher
Brandy by I can’t remember
The Night Chicago Died again, I can’t remembr who sang it.

I do still like these songs. Not enough to try to own them, but I always stop to listen if they come on the radio.

These are the songs from the early 70’s, the songs that made disco sound like a good idea. My songs.

I have shit 80s metal CDs that make me cringe to look at, but I can’t bring myself to throw them away. Curses!

Songs I really liked at the time, but not anymore:

Honey - Bobby Goldsboro
Mandy - Barry Manilow

And then there’s a hord of songs that I still like even though many other music lovers would laugh at that:

  • most ABBA songs
  • most Carpenters song
  • Annies song by John Denver (yeah, sue me)
  • and so on and so forth…

Furthermore, I like some artists very much although the rest of the board seem to hate them, like Eagles and Sting.

Mambo no. 5 - Lou Bega crying in shame

I used to like “Champagne Supernova” by Oasis back when it came out. When I hear it now, I cringe.
