Songs you like by artists you don't

Call 'em “few like wonders”.
Examples for me:

“1999”, “Little Red Corvette”, & “When Doves Cry” - Prince. I’m not a big Prince fan, but I do respect his talents.

“Back in Black” - AC/DC. Not really a metal fan. If there was ever a perfect match of voice to style, it’s Brian Johnson.

What about you?

I really didn’t like Christina Aguilera but I have to admit that I would always stop and listen to “Beautiful” . Written by Linda Perry from FourNon Blondes, I believe.

I typically despise the singer Brandy. But her song from a couple years ago, “What About Us” (or something like that), was really good, I thought.

“Hotel California” by the Eagles. The song is a classic, but I despise this ultimate vanilla-flavored band that completely wussified rock AND country for decades to come.

“Candy” by Mandy Moore. While I’m not a fan of pop in general, this is one cute, flirty, catchy little song that I’ll always listen to if it comes on the radio. (And I will listen to the faster, sexier dance songs from the pop girls, but not the ballads, and nothing by the guys.)

I’m sure I’ll come up with more later.

Marylin Manson has a few songs I like. “Love Song” I think is one of them. “Beautiful People.” His cover of “Sweet Dreams.” There are a few others. Yet, for the most part, I think Marylin is a terrible, over-rated singer. Still, I can’t deny that he has a few songs that I really like a lot.

That Aguilera person has a few good songs, too, even though I mostly can’t stand her. I don’t know what the songs are called, though. Not “Beautiful,” but the other one that’s on the radio.

Holding Back the Years by Simply Red.

I don’t really care one way or another about Justin Timberlake, but “Rock Your Body” just caught me.

Celine Dion doing “Here, There & Everywhere”

(No one was more surprised than I)

Generally I hate rap, but I actually count “California Love” by Tupac as one of my favorite songs.

Spice Girls “Holler” is a silly, dirty song with a great beat.
“You Shook Me (All Night Long)” by AC/DC is just fun.
Celine Dion’s “To Love You More” is fun to sing along with, as a soprano.
I can’t help but to dance to NSync’s “It’s Gonna Be Me.”

Can’t STAND Madonna m’self - her voice sounds like a squeaky cart going over gravel, but the “Ray of Light” album was SUPERB!!!

… but maybe that was the whole “William Orbit Thing…”

Britney Spears’ "Breathe On Me " from her new album. As seems to be common in this thread, “no one was more surprised than myself”.

“Copacabana” by Barry Manilow. Hate everything else he’s ever did, but the song is hilarious (especially the way he sings, “And she lost her mind”).

I can at least offer my sympathies to many people here. I hate Celine Dion, but I LOVE “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” And I like “Copacabana.”

And I hate to admit that I like Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter.”

I really dislike Everclear but the song “Santa Monica” came into my life while I was living in CA and it stuck with me.

Don’t care much for either Garth Brooks or Kiss, but I really liked Brooks’ cover of “Hard Luck Woman”.

“Beautiful” - Christina Guilera. Shows that she can be good when she doesn’t go the Mariah Carey route and bombard you with her voice. I hope she learns some subtly as she gets older.

“Hey Ya!” - Outkast. I rarely like much hip-hop, but when a song stand out from the pack like this one, and doesn’t sound like every other rap song out there I go for it.

“I Am The Bull God” - Kid Rock
“Hell In A Bucket” - The Grateful Dead
“The Perfect Drug” - Trent Reznor (NIN)
“On The Border” - The Eagles
“Numb”, “The Fly”, “Until The End Of The World” - U2
“My Favorite Mistake”, “If It Makes You Happy” - Sheryl Crow

I can NOT stand Shania Twain. I think her voice sucks any time I see her try to perform on TV shows and stuff, and it doesn’t sound much better on the radio.

I think that her song writing skill SUCK, as her songs are ALWAYS cheesy and annoying.

And at the same time, everytime one comes on the radio, I find myself singing cheerfully along to it.

EEEEEEEK!

Recently rocked out while driving down the interstate to Rod Stewart’s “Maggie Mae.” What the crap? It must be my mother’s genes; he’s one of her favorite singers.

Well, I don’t really “like it”, but I can stand to listen to “The River” by Springsteen. Anything else of his causes the station to change or a CD to get played.

Frostee Rucker? Sounds like a nice ice-cream treat. You might very well ask, “I’ll have a Frostee Rucker, please.” Of course, you’ll want to hold the nuts.
