Songs you like parts of

There’s a thread about movies where you like a small part. I was thinking the same is true for music too. Today I heard the song “Wrecking Ball” and I really love the part that starts “Don’t you ever say, I’ll just walk away/I will always want you.” The bombastic chorus I can give or take but I love how that bridge(I might not be using that musical term technically correct) sounds.

Are there songs where you particularly like just a small part?

“Randy Scouse Git” by The Monkees. Mickey Dolenz mashes two completely different songs together - one a light little ditty about his girlfriend, the Beatles and London, the other a rant from the point of view of someone who hates longhairs. Count me as liking the first part and hating the second.

I am one of the few people who likes the piano coda to Layla better than the main part of the song.

For the three people in the world who haven’t yet heard this, the shift from “traditional classic rock guitar jam session” to “smooth piano outro” begins a little after the three minute mark.
Layla - Derek and the Dominos

Speaking of the Monkees…

just the chorus…(oh - and don’t mind Davy Jones)

Love the harmonzing in that minor key. As a kid, I remember thinking - jeez, they actually put out a catchy song. (Well …Clarksville is ok too)

And strange - not often you’ll see a chorus starting off a song. (heh - almost a thread topic, there)

Shatner weighs in on a song.

Agreed. If I recall correctly, the story is that a pre-delusional Jim Gordon had been playing with the piano riff and then Duane and Eric started improvising around it.

I don’t have a cite handy, but I also believe that the coda was recorded on tape and then played at a slightly different speed for the final mix.

Anyway, the coda seems to me a perfect decompression from the intensity of the main body of the track.

The Intro to “Take Me Out” by Franz Ferdinand. Once the meat of the song starts I could really take it or leave it, but that opening build is just perfect.

Old Time Rock & Roll where they sing the chorus almost a capella, with only the drum beat. And then the drum solo…

There are many songs that I love the music and find the lyrics reprehensible.

“More than Words” by Extreme is a beautiful song with wonderful harmonies, and then you realize it’s a guy saying “if you really love me you’ll sleep with me.” Blecch.

“Don’t Fear the Reaper” has been taken as an appeal for murder/suicide. Whether the writer meant it or not doesn’t make it less questionable.
There are more, but since I haven’t been on a road trip with many CD compilations in a long time, I can’t think of any.

That’s one interpretation, but it’s certainly not the only one. We’ve discussed the song here on the SDMB before, and some people hear it that way, but others agree with the “official” explanation:
