Sonique or Winamp?

I use windows media player myself. I like the pretty images…

Winamp. (Especially the Beta 3 version: read the disclaimer when you install it! :D)

Although, to be truthful, I haven’t used Sonique. I only fiddle with Windows Media Player when I’m lying in bed, listening with my headphone/mic set: that way I can mutter: “Music, next” and it’ll skip ahead to the next one. (Ayup, I have the voice recognition for it installed.)

get g-force2 its a plugin for winamp and it blows the media player effects away.
oh yeah winamp

Huh. I guess descriptive thread titles are useful after all.

I should probably (re)state that to date I’ve only used Winamp, but have been hearing good things about Sonique from other message boards (I guess, since a search of the SDMB turned up precious little).

Anyway, I was mostly wondering if there was any difference in terms of quality of the music or the equalizers between the two, or if they “only” had different feature sets.

Thanks.

Winamp - since the very first versions.

Winamp - I’ve used a few of the others over the years, but I always go back to winamp. I know what all the buttons do. The visuals are not a feature I care about for the most part, although I do like the skins.
dead0man

I used both Sonique and WinAmp back in the day. I’ve since uninstalled WinAmp and relied on Sonique and MusicMatch to handle my listening needs. I remember Sonique just plain looking better than WinAmp and the eye candy enticed me to keep on using it. I never noticed any significant differences in audio quality or features and at the time, Sonique had better visuals for the music.

I believe WinAmp currently has a bigger following and as such, more plug-ins and visuals are made for it. Sonique’s community is pretty much dead what with the lack of communication between the development team and everyone.

iTunes.

Winamp. I heard a lot of really good things about Sonique, so I downloaded it at work (when I had a job that allowed me to play mp3’s at work.) Frankly, I hated it. In fact, I didn’t think it was possible for me to hate a stupid media player, but in fact it was stupid and frustrated me to no end. After about two weeks, I uninstalled it and reinstalled winamp.

It licks the llamas ass…

Here’s a vote for DeliPlayer http://www.deliplayer.com

It handles about 190 formats, is skinnable, and has an unskinned mode that lets you just add/remove controls and whatnot without making a skin. That mode’s ugly, but very functional.

It’s also the best MOD/MED player I’ve found for Windows.

Winamp is great but a resource hog. Sonique is a clone. If you want to simply play music get STP (SysTrayPlay) by some poor Russian guy who just got drafted.

Takes up almost no space, no resources, and supports Winamp skins.

Winamp 3, and the static corner amp skin.

Thanks, I think I’ll check that out. At 600 MHz and 256 MB of RAM, my computer’s not exactly a wimp, but it’d be nice to have a few extra clock cycles for Photoshop…
