Could it be leading to Tony doing something stupid with someone else’s money, or ripping somebody off for money to cover his losses?
He’s not likely to borrow from Hesh again. Does he have any friends who could bail him out?
The first time he misses a payday – what will happen? We know Paulie’s broke. Christopher probably sunk his cash into the movie. Sil might have some socked away. Bobby have any money?
Chase can’t drop the gambling thing, not after spending so much time on it.
Christopher makes a windfall from Cleaver. He throws a big party to celebrate his new millions. Tony hits him up for cash, making it seem like Christopher is obligated. Christopher is finally in a position of power over Tony, and relishes telling him no with a smile on his face. Tony’s debts continue to mount. He takes the money he has stashed outside his house and leaves. Carm realizes he is gone and runs to check the stash. She finds it gone and realizes Tony is gone too. She may think he went witness protection. Others may too. But he just ook off with enough cash to live like a beach bum in Fiji.
It will end with Tony a selfish psychopath. Who woulda thunk it?
So where was Southside Johnny? I watched the last half or so last night from the point where Tony hands Hesh the cap and he was nowhere to be seen. He was definately in the credits.
Maybe in the Nancy Sinatra scene? I haven’t seen it again.
The whole Tony/Carm thing is great the way some of you formulate it. She is a whore, and he does nothing but rent her services for a very large fee.
She whored herself for the house, and he paid the whore fees to tidy things up.
Real family? Are you fukking kidding me? The whole point is that he has no family, no friends – nothing. He’s a big pile of worthless shit, and by the last episode, if you don’t see that, you’ve seen nothing.
Does HBO run an ad that is a composite of similar malapropisms from The Sopranos? TMN, which is the Canadian first-run broadcaster, had one recently that was absolutely hilarious, but I didn’t know if it was locally produced or aired in the U.S. too. As soon as I heard this line, I thought that it would be a great addition to that ad.
The best way to end this, giving some notion of “closure,” but also leaving them all as mobsters the way they started out, is the following: Someone betrays Tony – maybe Paulie, maybe Chris, or maybe even Bobby, pushed by you-know-who. Or maybe Phil decides to whack Tony. In any case, they put a bomb in Tony’s car. Through whatever circumstances, Tony doesn’t get in the car. Carm, Meadow and AJ do. Carm and Meadow are blown to smithereens. AJ survives as a hideously disfigured wretch for whom Tony has to provide care for the rest of his life. Finally, people he truly, truly cares about are ruined and dead. Howz them apples, Tony? Happy? Way to go, big boy. The show, apart from the kills and the family relations, has also been about reaching down into Tony and seeing if there’s something there to work with. Something to rehabilitate, to put it in a corny fashion. Maybe his reaction to this loss will hint that there is. Tragically, though, if he softens up, he’ll be eaten alive. That’s the dilemma he’s faced with at the end of the series. Still a mobster, still needing to be a mobster, but really, really wanting out.
This plot has the added advantage of leaving most major characters alive for a movie.
Anyway, reading one of the spoilers above indicates that this scenario will not take place. So be it…
Nitpick: you might be right, but Memorial day is May 28, so wouldn’t they skip the Sunday before, May 27? Not sure myself, but mentioning it just in case someone here uses these dates for their watching schedule.
From what I can figure out from the HBO website, the Soprano’s will not be shown on 5/27. It will be shown on 6/10 at 9:00pm; presumably, as a lead-in to Big Love at 10:00pm.
I could be wrong, but I think that’s how they do it.
