A friend recommended asking this question here as we weren’t able to google it successfully: I named my son, Soren, after reading the a quote by Soren Kierkegaard in a book/novel about 5 years ago. I had always remembered the book as “God Bless You Dr. Kevorkian” by Kurt Vonnegut, but I can’t seem to find the passage there any more. Am I just overlooking it, or does anyone have any idea what book it may have been? Thanks.

You do realize the philosopher’s name was Søren not Soren?
Maybe if you gave us the actual quote … ?
The word “kierkegaard” does not come up on a Google Books search of Vonnegut.
I do know the philosopher’s name was Søren, but I was unfamiliar with allowed character s on the board. Also, New York state forbade us to use ø as it does not appear on a normal keyboard, so in both cases I resorted to Soren. I am trying to look back through his baby book to see if I can find any more clues about what the clue may have been.
The memory in my mind was being 8 months pregnant riding the 1/9 train and stumbling across Søren Kierkegaard’s name while reading “God Bless You Dr. Kevorkian” and thinking, “that’s a great name.” Now this is really starting to eat me as I can’t remember more. I’ll think about it and get back to you.
Isn’t it Rosewater, not Kevorkian?

Seriously? You are busting balls for this?
I don’t even know how to make special umlats and other characters. I guess I can never start a thread about Motley Crue or Husker Du.
Wow.

Two different books:
My bad. I stopped paying attention to Vonnegut 25 years ago.
