And, of course, the Sorority will bear zero responsibility for any bad thing that comes from that kind of pressure on it’s pledges.
Apparently many people think date rape is a BAD thing. Who knew?
Of course. Deny deny deny.
Nonsense. Denial IS just a river, um, somwhere.
There’s one part that’s really…ominously interesting:
That little part shows how pissed off the sorority seems to be that they broke the sacred trust of the group. I had a friend who was part of a fraternity where the treasurer had absconded with thousands of the frat’s money and the house ended up closing because of it. They didn’t turn the thief in due to loyalty oaths with the guy. Really stupid culture.
Whoa she’s extremely hot.
I dunno. It seems sort of OTT that the sorority would kick her out… I’m sure far worse things are said on a daily basis. However, she did put it in writing. And the fact that she was identified, and those racist tweets came out… I guess they didn’t have a choice. But we were pretty much at 14:59 regarding its moment of popularity.
This is kind of the thing that bugs me about the social media world. As OTT as Rachel was, and misguided in some regards, it does appear to me that she really cared about her sorority. I’m all for reporting the email, but I think this could have been handled internally by the sorority and the university. I am not a fan of publicly humiliating people who do stupid things like this. The message is so ridiculous I couldn’t believe that she was seriously going to harm these women, but maybe she was going to indeed cuntpunt someone.
I’m imagining that she might be eligible for reinstatement down the road.
Wasn’t there some kind of annual competition sponsored by a corporation for this? IIRC it was called the cunt punt and throw competition. But maybe it was restricted to boys, which perhaps resulted in the trainwreck we see today.
Yes, if it had stayed in house it would have blown over. But she ticked off one of her “sisters” enough for the sister to go public with it. So the National came down on the Chapter and the Chapter HAD to do something. You think you want to or want to let your daughter pledge Delta Gamma with that person in it? So she’s gone for the rest of the year. Just a couple of months, right? As for next year, depends on how quickly stuff settles down.
It may be a cliche, but I want Bruno Ganz to read it.
(What’s German for cunt punt?)
according to Google Translate it is Fotze Punt
I take it this is not a sorority for math majors.
The substance, such as it is, of the rant this thread is mocking is the view that sorority girls should be putting aside their own lives in order to serve as better decorative accessories for their paired fraternity.
In that context, I don’t think those comments are as “off-topic” as all that.
Must have been a holiday.
You don’t count Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and uh, Arbor Day.
Probably Yom Kippur, not Arbor Day.
Agreed.
My Greek life is way behind me and, due to the nature of the technical university that I attended, all the fraternities were nerd fraternities, but there is a bit that people seem to be missing here.
This all stemmed from behavior during their Greek Week, which is most likely a week of “sporting” events where fraternities and sororities compete against each other for some type of reward and/or bragging rights. A kind of mini-Olympics where competitions might be kickball (as referenced in the lady’s email) or tug-of-war or other goofy type events.
It would seem that each sorority is paired (“matched up”) with a fraternity. They are most likely pulled from a hat and neither the fraternity nor the sorority have any choice in the matter. The idea is to work together as a team and win as much as possible, all the while getting to meet other people in the university’s Greek system.
Any competition can get pretty heated. Depending on the circumstances, rooting for the other team is akin to someone on Team USA’s bench rooting for Russia in the 1980 Olympic Hockey final game. It is terribly insulting when your own teammates are vocally rooting against you, even if they are not participating at the moment and are in the spectator’s stands. I haven’t played many team sports in my life, but I would be incensed if one of my teammates were booing another of my teammates.
This woman is not trying to turn her sisters into little whores for the fraternities, she is trying to get them to act like they would expect other people to treat them. Both her language and emotional state are way over the top for such an occasion, I agree. But please don’t imply that she is a date rape enabler.
I would give her the benefit of doubt that she has the best interest of her sorority and sisters at heart, but she just went about it all wrong, as young people are wont to do.
Also, don’t call fraternities “frats”. You wouldn’t call your… Well, let’s just say you wouldn’t punt your country.
That may be true of many/most sorority women, but this one is a real keeper. Even putting aside her rant, some of her tweetsare…enlightening.
Not the sort of person I’d have any interest knowing, even if I were inclined toward the sorority life.
This was all brought to life in that wonderful documentary called: Revenge of the Nerds.
And we all know there wasn’t any sex in that movie
