So yeah, on an oldies listening kick. Listened to Ronnie Dyson’s Why Can’t I Touch You and was reminded of a song that I loved. At least I remember loving it, even though I can’t remember the dang song.
I believe it is about the same vintage as Ronnie Dyson’s song and it was a woman pleading with her man to not change her after all she’s done. It is right on the tip of my brain and I just. . . can’t. . . grasp it!
Heh. Sounds like it’d be a mashup of two Linda Ronstadt hits from that era: you warned me of the price I’d have to pay … I’ve done everything I know to try and change your mind … I’m not ready for any person, place, or thing to try and pull the reins in on me; so, goodbye, I’ll be leavin’.
I know and love the Dionne Warwick original version, that came out before I was born. The song my kid brain remembers from the radio is Brenda and the Tabulation’s version. Which came out in 1970. And here I thought the only music out before I was born was harpsichord music.
