Sorry ladies, you can't hang with the SEALS

You ain’t the only one.

For some reason “past” rather than “post” makes me laugh out loud.

I’ve been dealing with septic tank issues for the past week. Guess how many people I’ve talked to that that will come and fix this shit (heh) are women?

I

Yeah, but there has been almost none of that. If you don’t agree with the op, which granted was a bit incoherent but seemed to imply that even allowing women to attempt to pass the training was ludicrous, you don’t really have any significant sparring partners here.

The point here is that assuming standards aren’t lowered and so far there is no indication that they have been, there is no reason female soldiers shouldn’t be allowed to try to pass. The number that do so will probably vary between zero and some other fairly low number, even more so if we’re talking about the smaller universe of female military recruits. You don’t seem to arguing against this, therefore you’re not arguing with most people in this thread.

As I mentioned to the op, when and if standards are lowered in such a way as to allow more women to pass for political reasons, do feel free to stop in here and bitch.

Otherwise all I see is people arguing past each other.

The last plumber that came to my house was a woman. She seemed reasonably competent.

Pretty much. By skipping most of the taunting nonsense in the upstream portion of the thread before diving in to address how probable it was that there would be success if men and women hypothetically went head to head in BUDS, I missed the predicate issue being discussed that this is currently not allowed, but should be opened up to women. This was my oversight and led to a lot of confusion.

I have no issues alt all with BUDS or other elite SOF courses being opened to women. The more the merrier. The caveat is that I think that “non-zero” number is not going to be very high at all.

Whether outcomes matter or just opportunity is a separate discussion that I should have addressed separately. I apologize for confusing the conversations.

THIS.

Exactly.

So what if it takes 4 or 5 or 10 years before the first woman actually makes it through BUD/S? Fuck it, let us TRY!

I’ve got two retired SEAL relatives, and three more who washed out of BUD/S themselves, and are damn proud of their Navy careers anyway, on both sides of my family. My husband’s family includes competitive female swimmers who run about 6’ tall or more, outmass the average man, and have shoulders Superman would envy.

If I have a girl child, I can raise her knowing that IF she lives up to her genetic and mental potential, she, just like her brother, can have the chance to serve her country at the highest and most elite level, just like her relatives did before her. And if she can’t hack it, then at least she knows from birth that she had the RIGHT to try for it, just like every other able-bodied citizen.

Gotdamn y’all, you act like we’re going to rub our pussies all over your collective Cheerios or something. Jeezus.

It feels like this can really be summed up with an interpretation of the word “can’t”.

“Sorry ladies, you [aren’t allowed to] hang with the SEALS.” <-----asshole
“Sorry ladies, you [(probably) won’t be able to] hang with the SEALS.” <----well, yeah

ETA: For all of its history, the US Navy has been saying the first one. I’m not okay with that.

I’m not seeing that attitude, but I am seeing a huge amount of magical thinking by otherwise rational people. IMO there is no amount of wishing and hoping and workouts and aerobic preparation and positive attitude magic that’s going to give women the upper body strength they need to (assuming hypothetically they are allowed to compete) complete and graduate BUDS head to head vs men as the program is currently configured.

But, by all means let them in and let them compete. You go girl!

Just checking in to see if the crew of divorced fathers who feel the courts devalue their parenting skills in favor of mothers. Because as we all know men are widely known to be brutish, impulsive, sexually indiscriminate horn dogs more biologically suited to peruse porn and watch sports all day than feed and swaddle a baby.

Wha? They aren’t here? Oh, okay. I’ll speak up for them. Some men are superior parents, attentive and nurturing and well suited to the role of father. Some women are total badasses, too. Wait and see.

I went to high school with a guy who became an Army Ranger. He was on the cross country team and weighed about 135 lbs soaking wet. It certainly wasn’t his physical strength that got him through training.

Well, it sure beats milk.

Yes, never once in the history of humans, has a women ever changed a diaper either.

Nothing like taking bold positions saying how 50% of the world’s population are useless to make yourself popular on the boards.

51 percent actually.

Would you mind translating?

I don’t speak asshole.

I think there are woman who could make it through BUD/S, but I’m ambivalent as to whether they should be allowed to try. It’s not like our special forces have these glaring tactical shortcomings that maybe women can rectify. They don’t actually need women to volunteer for this stuff. So the only argument in favor of allowing it is that it will give those few weirdo women who want to be trained killers the opportunity, and society can beam with pride because they got a fair shot. Or something. But practically speaking, what we’ll actually be giving them is the chance to be harassed and made miserable by people who despise their presence and don’t need them.

Do you know why fat slob men get all worked up about this? Because even fat slob men daydream about being Rambo from time to time. Who the hell are these women who want to sneak around the jungle, slitting the throats of sentries and gathering intelligence, or rappel from a helicopter and breach a doorway in order to wax some poor, unsuspecting bastard as he wildly fires off an AK, or dive into the freezing cold sea to plant limpet mines on a freighter? Those are the women who end up driving their kids into a lake.

I don’t have an opinion on this, because it isn’t clear to me what Navy Seals do. Yeah, I know they shot Osama, but I don’t know what their typical mission entails. That said, the numbers approach by Crazyhorse seems like the sensible one.
That said, most special forces work doesn’t involve rappelling down buildings or even canyons. This isn’t James Bond. Most work involves interacting with locals and having excellent ability to improvise. A good example might be during the runup to Gulf War II: special forces men were sent in to… bribe Iraqi generals not to fight. Another example would be the guys who rode horseback in Afghanistan without advanced training and having never rode before. Situational flexibility and language skills seem like key requirements to me, not ultra-marathons.

So actually we need a lot of Army Rangers not a small number of the best of the bestest

But I assume there are different types of special ops folk: again I don’t know what different groups do. But I can surmise that Hollywood can only dream about the all-female team of Navy Seals concept. The scripts write themselves. We like that sort of thing.

**MOIDALIZE **does.

No, I’m fluent in prick. I’m merely conversational in asshole.

I thought I was alone when my recent LTR broke up.

This was actually the (too lengthy) 2005 article that inspired my last post:
Imperial Grunts - The Atlantic 2 quotes:

There are a number of posters here who have serious issues.

I really hope they don’t have to interact with women on a daily basis, especially in high-stress environments (like a relationship).
