Navy SEALs’ combat roles (as distinct from, say, Army Rangers’ combat roles) are mostly limited to aiming and pulling triggers, which requires much hand-eye coordination but not much muscular strength, and women can do it as well as men at the very least.

If you take a quick glance at Wikipedia you can see that the Seals do a bit more than just aim and pull triggers. Their training program is very rigorous and has something like a 90% drop out rate. And once their training is complete the go on missions that sometimes require a great deal of endurance.

I just don’t understand how bigots last this long on this board. I mean, I have to think that the guy is drunk, but you’d still think his position that women should not be allowed to compete with men for the same jobs would have come out at some point in the past.

Note that statement: compete. There’s no guarantee that they will get the jobs. They just are no longer forced not to be able to try for sexist reasons.

Wait until standards are actually lowered if they are, then bitch. You’ll have a more coherent, meaty argument and you’ll probably get a fair bit of agreement. As it stands your op comes more than a little close “they shouldn’t even try” and really, who should give a rat’s ass if they try or not?

• Actually I wouldn’t be surprised if the number were even lower than that, but given human variation I wouldn’t be shocked if some extraordinary women could pass current standards. And if someone can and they want to do it, I see no reason to bar them from the opportunity.
