Oh yes, Haze, Olive is beautiful and does have the look of a Maine Coon. Hope the two kitties will get along!
For some reason lol now I’m thinking of Eggs Benedict, which is one of my favorites!! Thanks, FCM! Hope Miss Brandy is okay; glad that she’s helping FCD recouperate - maybe it’s a sympathetic illness?!
Up and caffeinating early 'cause daughter and I are headed to Target first thing. Just some errands, for which I’m hoping the entrance fee won’t be -too- high.
Most likely she had undiagnosed gestational diabetes–this tends to lead to large babies (no, I don’t know why). #1 son was 10 lbs 4 oz at birth. #2 son was 9 lbs 12oz-but that time I had been diagnosed with GD. My daughter was 8 lbs 11oz. None were smaller than 21 inches. Believe me, I got some newborn clothes that were never worn–most of my kids were born the size of 3 month clothes.
Off to a field hocky game. The administration has decided to knock this down to club status, despite a growing program, almost no cost to the school (girls buy their own equipment), and the fact that 6 girls last year obtained full or partial scholarships to college by playing the sport. Time for a petition and some concerned parents at the school board meeting. Stoopit Athletic Director (who has never come to even watch a game).
Drat. If it snowed overnight, it didn’t stick, and I have yet to see a flake – though the clouds are so low that once they pick up I fully expect the mountains to be covered again. This does make it easier for all the festival stuff going on this weekend, since obviously nothing outdoors gets cancelled here because of snow. Most places I’ve lived would freak out about it. I think I like the local attitude more. I went to the store last night and got a few things I needed – btw, MT, they had that sliced Tillamook cheddar you mentioned you saw in Oregon, so I got some to make grilled cheese sandwiches with. smirk
It’s going to be cold tonight for the outdoor concerts and stuff! But I will bundle up and head out. What the hell. Everybody else I know, just about, will be out and about. I know about layering, so nobody need mother me.
I was really hoping to wake up and see a bunch of white stuff. I know I will soon enough – apparently there is never a Halloween without snow on the ground here – but at least for now the idea of snow is still fun, dammit! It will be less fun come, oh, April. My aunt told me a few years ago it snowed every day in April. I’ll be cussing it out with her, I’m entirely sure, if that happens next year, even though we desperately need the water!
I think she looks Maine Coon-ish, too. Beautiful, pretty kitty.
I’m up, eating brunch (homemade bread with strawberry jam. Yum), and about to do stuff. I think QD and I are supposed to be hunting baby gear today, but she hasn’t called yet.
The agency said that Olive probably does have a bit of Maine Coon in her. She’s not big enough to be a full-blooded one, but her fur suggests that there was a pureblood somewhere within the last couple generations.
Cloud Maiden’s cat is still rather wary of her; I think she feels she’s at a disadvantage because she’s shaven and has a cone on her head. Plus Olive is quite the “cat-slut,” as one of my friends put it last night - she loves everyone, and Shaven Cat feels her position as Pampered Cat threatened. Cloud Maiden and I are lavishing extra attention on her, so hopefully things will settle down quickly.
Ugh, I am exhausted. Last night some of us went over to a friend’s and had some drinks; then several of us decided we weren’t quite finished yet and went to a 4am bar to have some more. I JUST got back home - I spent the night at a friend’s house - and I can’t decide whether or not I want to go back to sleep or whether I should take a shower and get some coffee. I hate that feeling of putting your night-time clothes back on in the morning. They’re uncomfortable and smell like smoke and for some reason it makes me feel like a tramp. Heh.
Oh, so those boots I was telling you about? I wore them last night; I think I got about five seperate offers of “need a ride, baby?” while walking down the street. :dubious: Well, now I know what to do if I ever run out of bus money.
Beautiful kitty, Haze! Welcome to the crazy MMP, Olive! I know you’ll be spoiled rotten. And good on yer, Haze, for adopting an adult kitty – kittens can always find a home, but it’s often much harder finding a home for adults. Olive is about the same age as Emily was when we adopted her, and we’ve certainly never regretted it! Emily would say hi, by the way, but she’s busy sulking because I got out of bed – she did not want me to get up this morning, it was lovely and cool and we were all snuggled up together so cozily. But alas, eventually my bladder won out even over a purring kittycat. I’m evil that way.
I hope your dad’s surgery goes well, ems. Keep us posted; good thoughts headed your way!
Dotty: Ouch! Ouch ouch ouch!
All I have to say to you, nosnowbunny, is: Pbbbbbbbtht! (= sticking tongue out smiley) And in case nobody else tells you, be sure to layer up well tonight so you stay warm!
I’ve got a MOUNTAIN of work to do today because last night I started feeling awful, just aching all over, so went to bed at 9:00 and watched TV the rest of the evening. But today I don’t have time to feel bad, so I guess I will just Deal With It if it happens. Have a good day, everybody!
:Passes tea and sympathy through the computer for MamaTigs:
I’m furiously housecleaning before QD and her Best Friend arrive. Which actually could be any time between noon and six this evening, given QD’s total inability to get things done quickly. Anyway, Attacks Husband and the girls are going out baby-gear shopping. He’s pretty much a girl. Well, no. He’s more like the Perfect Boyfriend, who doesn’t mind shopping with packs of girls, holds things for you to try on, and goes to find alternate colours and sizes. All without complaining. Too bad he’s married.
Lawn has been mowed/mulched, a load of towels has been washed and dried, and I’ve got a loaf of cinnamon/applesauce bread in the bread machine. We went out to breakfast, but it was a bit too much for **FCD ** - when we got home, he crashed.
I’m going to go play in clay in a bit, but I feel lazy today, so I don’t expect to get much done. Maybe I’ll be more motivated tomorrow. Then Monday I get to go back to work. woo and/or hoo…
I will have to go to the store today - we’re almost out of ice cream. Oh noes!!!
Dad got out of surgey at 5PM GMT and the nurse said he was sleeping like a baby. Surgery went well. My Mam was bawling so I rang my sister and she started crying so I ended up crying as well! We were all so relieved that the stress was (almost) over. Tears and snot all round!
My Mam, sister and I just got back from going to visit and let me tell you my Dad is very amusing when he is on a morphine high! We were disturbing the other patients!
I am very much happier knowing it went well - like a huge weight is lifted.
So glad your dad’s surgery went well, mmmmmmmm!! Here’s hoping his recovery is quick and problem-free.
Your dad and my spouse must be soul brothers. Even when **FCD ** was all hooked up to all kinds of tubes and on heavy pain meds, he was joking and flirting with the nurses. They’d come in and ask “How are you?” and he’d respond “Fine, how are you?” They’d toss off a generic “Fine” and he’d come back with “Good, your happiness is a priority in my life!”
One of his nurses was a short black woman (almost a girl - she was very young looking) and when she was doing her first evaluation of him post-surgery, including asking about his vision, he said “I see fine - you’re a tall skinny white dude, right?” She just cracked up about that, and every time she came back, she announced herself as the tall white dude.
I’m still being a bum. We had a late lunch - he had chili, I had veggie soup. I’ll need to feed the critters in half an hour. I’m thinking I won’t be going to my studio today. Nope, not likely. I’m such a bum.
For the record, I don’t have your blowtorch. So you don’t have to look here for it.
I am also not in posession of your blowtorch bbs2k
My Dad was flirting with the nurses as well FCM which is pretty difficult to do when you are wired up to BP monitors, oxygen, morphine, catheter, drains and saline drips and yet he pulled it off with a distinct touch of class!
I went to the TKGA show in Oakland this morning. The yarn was pretty picked over already (not that that’s a bad thing), so I only spent what I had in my yarn budget. Well, maybe I went a little over. Had to make the drive worthwhile! I picked up an assortment of yarns, plus a sweater kit and a shawl pattern. However, I didn’t look at the pattern very closely, and it’s not charted. Sigh. How can you write a shawl pattern and not chart it? It’s a pretty mitered shawl, though, so it will be worth the agony of five pages of written instructions. My gift package to Finland is almost complete. I just need to wait for the needles to get here.
I’m glad to read the procedure went well ems. I hope the recovery is speedy too.
We’ve just returned from our trip to Portland for my sister’s wedding. I must say, we had a blast! My sister looked absolutely stunning. The actual ceremony was short, sweet, and not at all stuffy.
After the ceremony, tables were pulled from the sides (previously set) and the food was put on. There were all kinds of goodies to nosh on; chicken tandori, bacon wrapped scallops, fruit, mini-quiches, some kind of pasta something or another, filled phyllo triangles. It was all yummy. The bartender did not skimp on the booze. When my husband brought me my first drink I asked if he’d ordered a double and he said no. My drink was rum and coke. There was WAY more rum than coke in all the drinks I consumed.
We were dancin’ fools as well. I swear, I must have danced five pounds off of me. I really worked up a sweat. Even my husband, who doesn’t really like to dance, was out there shakin’ his groove thang.
We didn’t get back to our hotel until around 1:30 in the morning. I woke up at 8:30 and we were cleaned up and checked out by 10:00. We stopped at Mickey D’s for egg mcmuffins and then headed back up here.
The relatives were disappointed that we opted to stay in Vancouver and not Beaverton, but the hubby wanted to head back up here.
I told Papa Tigs not to let the dogs hide the blowtorch. I’m sorry, bb, it may never be found unless you can persuade one of the Idiots to reveal his favorite secret hiding place!
I’m glad your dad is flirting with the nurses, ems. Papa Tigs doesn’t flirt; he just grumps. He hates, hates, hates hospitals, so he’s a cranky patient. So I have to make nice to everybody so he doesn’t aggravate them too much.
Would you be up to trying to chart the pattern yourself, Jahdra? I’m trying to learn to chart simple patterns, which is not always as easy as it looks, but it’s starting to come with practice – as long as the rows end up with the same number of stitches! Patterns that have differing stitch counts per row are a whole new challenge that I’m not up to yet. I’m finding charting not to be as hard as I thought it would be – you might get some graph paper and give it a shot some time. I then transfer it to a layout in Excel when I’ve got it worked out – I downloaded a (freeware) True Type font recently that has knitting symbols, and if you’re interested, I can send you the self-extracting zip file. Even if I mostly use it thus far in transferring patterns out of books to printed pages that are easier to carry around and mark up, it’s still a great tool!
I have joined the 21st century and gotten some pictures online right here of various doggy friends, plus three all taken from one spot a couple of blocks from where I live, facing different directions. I’ll get more of the town eventually, but there’s a big festival going this weekend and downtown is a bit crowded and parking is, well, impossible.
So…um…enjoy. If you like cute doggie pictures, have I got some for you!
