Sound Blaster Live EAX problems.

I am in the EAX control panel and I am experimenting with different settings.

But the reverb effect is stuck. The desibel slider won’t move (so no reverb is added at all) and all the sliders within the different reverb presets (such as ‘drugged’ ‘psychotic’ ‘underwater’) won’t move. I am guessing that reverb has the most noticable effect on the sound so it is a bit disappointing that it’s the one thing that is not having any effect on the sound at all.

There was a time when switching between ‘no effects’ and ‘concert hall’ produced a noticable change in sound. Now due to the reverb being ‘stuck’ I cannot notice any difference.

help? Thanks.

P.S. I am sorry if none of that makes sense. I am hoping that someone who has a soundblaster EAX enabled card, and has experience tinkering with the EAX settings will understand.

What OS did you have before, and what do you have now? Not all the Soundblaster’s functions are available in WinXP…
~

I used to have ME, now I have XP.

It’s a bit disappointing if the main sound-altering feature of the card is disabled for XP!. Does this mean I have to fork out for a new card[sup]*[/sup]?

[sup]* which might be a blessing in disguise[/sup]

Can anyone confirm the possibility that this particular problem is due to the theory that not all soundblaster functions are available in XP?
If so, is there a patch to solve this?

      • Well, first I should point out that I have a Soundblaster Live 5.1, a few years old now (but still a pretty good card, and still available for only $30).
  • Secondly, I had WinXP as a dual-boot OS with Win98 , and there were a few features that were either missing entirely or didn’t work nearly as well in XP. At first I used the Compaq drivers (because that was all that was available for SBLives in WinXP) and then I reinstalled and used the drivers off the Creative site. Both XP drivers had a few features lacking entirely or working poorly, and both were missing the same features. And the missing features are still available in Win98/ME. So I vote hardware-layer-access, but I don’t really know.
  • The best course of action is to find a Creative/soundcard forum and ask if all the features of SBLives run in Win98/ME are available in XP. I got rid of WinXP after a while, it ran slower and only had new, annoying problems–it didn’t do anything better than Win98 did for me. ONe particularly annoying problem was that Netscape and Mozilla would occasionally hiccup–AND LOSE ALL THE BOOKMARKS!!! Poof! Gone! >:(
