Getting my SoundBlaster to work in Knoppix

My primary hard drive died, so I’ve been getting my Internet fix from a Knoppix CD until my new drive arrives.

For the most part, I’m actually kind of liking it. I do have one very big problem, though: I’m not getting any sound at all.

I’m using an off-the-shelf card from Wal-Mart, certainly nothing exotic. It’s a SoundBlaster Audigy SE SB0570, an inexpensive two-channel card.

During the boot process, Knoppix recognizes it as “Creative Labs SB Audigy LS,” and assigns it the snd-ca0106 driver.

I’ve played with all of the volume settings and tried different media players, yet I cannot hear any sounds whatsoever.

If it helps, the rest of my system specs are:

Abit KR7A mobo
Athlon 1800+ CPU
1 GB PC2100 DDR (2x 512MB)
GeForce3 Ti200 AGP
Three HDDs, one DVD +/- RW drive
430W Antec PSU

I wanted to post this on the Knoppix help forum, but I’ve been waiting over two hours for the registration confirmation email, and it doesn’t seem to be coming.

Any ideas?

I downloaded the PCLinuxOS Live CD, and my sound somehow works, despite the fact that it’s using the same driver as Knoppix.

That’s strange, I suppose, but I’m not going to argue with success.
