I’m putting together an amateur video for the place where I volunteer (training video for new volunteers), and I’m having a problem with the sound editing.
We’re using the new flat-screen iMac with OS X (and OS 9, I think). We have to use this computer as it is the only one we have access to with a decent movie editing program and a DVD burner, and the entire computer network there is Macs.
So far we’ve finished all of the editing of the actual movie clips, including title screens, credits, etc. Now we’re just trying to add a few sound effects for the title screens, bleeping out swears, and things like that. So far the iMovie program has been very user-friendly, and it isn’t too hard to figure out what to do by fiddling around for a minute (none of us have used iMovie before).
But now we have a problem with the sound editing. We’ve found tons of free .wav files on the Internet with the sounds we want, but iMovie will only import sounds in .aiff format (and mp3). No problem - I thought. I downloaded a converter from download.com with a high user approval rating, and the files I converted imported and played fine.
I cropped the clips to the lengths/sections we need and put them in the additional audio track at the correct places, and then played the section to see if it fits with whatever movie clip is playing then. Some of them work just fine. But for a few of them the audio clip plays fine and then once the added audio clip is done playing a loud stuttering noise starts (sounds kind of like a record skipping, but high pitched and repeating quickly). This noise only stops when you press pause, no longer how long you let the movie keep running. BUT, after this if you move the playhead back to just after the added sound clip, everything plays fine.
I hope I described this right, I had difficulty putting it into words at first.
Like I said, this only happens with some of the sound clips, and only some of the converted clips. So I’m thinking that this isn’t a problem with the converter program itself. But if it isn’t that, then I have no idea.
Any help would be appreciated.
Oh, and if anyone can suggest a place to find a sound clip of the “DUH, DUH, DUHHHH” (stereotypical “ominous” sound), I’d appreciate it. I checked all over about 30 sites yesterday and tried everything I could think of on Google, but no luck.
Thanks again.
