Soundalike Songs

John Fogerty’s The Old Man Down the Road was similar enough to Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Run Through the Jungle that his former record company sued him for plagiarizing himself.

I was just pondering this topic the other day when I heard U2’s “Vertigo” and realized the chorus sounds exactly the same as the Supremes’ “You Keep Me Hanging On.” Exact same chord progression - you can sing one over the other.

U2 also used a chunk of a-ha’s “The Sun Always Shines On TV” for “Beautiful Day.” (Noted on the other thread.)

Euro dance act DJ Miko had a song in the 90s called “Lovely Lullaby” whose chorus was EXACTLY the same as Pat Benatar’s “Shadows of the Night.” It was so blatant I checked to see if they gave the songwriters credit or if Pat’s version might have been a cover of some European hit.

This is, of course, an old thread, on a subject we do anew at least once a year – welcome to the Dope, red, and be sure to enjoy some of this theme’s more recent incarnations! (try searching for “song” “exactly” “sounds”) – but I would like to point out that the descending chord sequence of the songs mentioned here is indeed an old standby, perhaps most directly associated with Spanish flamenco music.

Well, since this thread is up, I’d like to ask if I’m the only one who hears Wham!'s Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go whenever Jessie J et al’s Bang Bang comes on.

Sausalito sunrise by diesel is the best Steve Miller song he never wrote

Michael Jackson admitted that he lifted the baseline from Hall and Oates’ “I Can’t Go For That” for “Billy Jean” to Daryl Hall.

Another recent thread on the same topic. One of my posts there didn’t get a response, but the similarity was so striking I would like to post it again.
