To tell the truth, I’m not even certain if we have any Dopers in the Southern Ocean County area. But just in case we do, everyone safe?
I’ve spoken to a few friends in that area, and apparently it’s getting a bit hectic. A few cousins from my wife’s side of the family have been evacuated, and apprently the threat to their home is getting pretty bad.
(If you’re not of the area and are unaware, an F-16 mistakenly dropped a flare into the Pine Barrens – wildfire ensues).
Wow, that’s crazy. I hope no one is badly hurt.

Chiming in…one county to the south, Atlantic County.
Didn’t even know about it untill I heard it on the news.
No deaths and few injuries so far, but many homes have been destroyed. It sounds like the fire is finally under control. There is talk about evacuees returning tomorrow.
It sounds like this fire was a military exercise mishap. I have to wonder about the idea of dropping flares when the Pines were this dry. Someone used some very bad judgment.
