Sending up the media was pretty funny (although Katrina coverage was one of the few things the media did a pretty good job with). The rest of the episode was mostly crap.
True, but that’s what I thought was lame…not satirizing anything in the real world (when there’s so much available) but just parodying a lousy year old movie. Not to say they necessarily have to be doing cutting edge satire. But, after all as you noted, the orginal was funny enough. Too easy .
They’ve had some good episodes that were nothing but parodying a lousy year-old movie. Ever see “You Got F-ed in the A-”?
Just a WAG. Perhaps the Katrina bit was toned down… so Comedy Central wouldnt get legal action after them?
I was taping last night (Drawn Together Actually, and I’m the only one who still doesnt know how to work the timer on my VCR) but anyway, I caught the last “act” of the Episode right before it. (The Toiletpaper of the WhiteHouse/ Silence Of the Lambs Rip)
I think South Park is too pigieon holed now. Its Lucy with Ethel Cartman in the mix to push the Lucy buttons. Very Formulaic.
Then again, when Southpark Rips on it self;
I think it was Kyle? (Paraphrased, from a few Seasons back)
“Don’t you see guys? We’ve done this before… its like some kind of formula or something. "
Also I noticed that “”“WALL MART””" is now “Grocery Mart” . Gee I wonder why.
I’m Still Working on why Kenny is even back on the show, when They DID Kill him for a season… right? I mean wasnt that when Butters starting showing up?
It’s because the Walmart imploded. Ever heard of a little something called “continuity?”
Yeah, but Kenny… came back.

Anyway, I liked the episode. Wasn’t one of the best, but funny anyway. I loved where the guy fell when everyone was running and started screaming. The whole Chicago lost 600 billion people bit was hilarious as well.
If you looked carefully, you could see a few of the townsfolk glancing around during the song—like they were wondering “where’s that music coming from?”
I know that the crab people have showed up before. Anyone remember which episode?
The Queer Eye one is where they started; the 5 guys are actually crab people and it’s part of their plot to take over the world.
They’ve showed up in one other one but I can’t remember which.
I think the anti-semitism just gets funnier and funnier; it was especially great when Cartman was right; I died laughing.
My favorite part of this episode was the repitition of, “We didn’t listen.” My friends and I have been saying that all day.
“The death toll is expected to be in the hundreds of millions. The population of Beaverton is only 8000, so this would be quite devastating.”
Cartman tried to get the gang to do a story on them for the Sexy Action School News
Darn Real World is trying to copy South Park now.

I can’t find a good pic of it, but it is described as an old rickety wooden damn sitting above a community of 50,000.
“I think we can do a little better than ‘Crab People.’”
