It was an improvement over last week’s - almost anything would have had to have been - but it was still a pretty pedestrian episode. At least there were multiple laughs this week… it was still a step down from the season’s start, but it was at least worth the half hour.
“Cartman you have to kick.”
“No, you just have to save me.”
“Cartman I need your help.”
“No, just save me.”
The scene where he crapped out the gold was hilarious.
Question though: why did Cartman eat the treasure? Why didn’t he just put it up his butt like he did Disneyland?
Cartman’s Gold Bug definitely worked – I laughed out loud at the look on his face when he expelled it. Perfect. It was pretty good when the kids were hoisting him up like a big pinata, too.
Mot much beyond that, though. One real laugh and a bit of a chuckle.
This show used to hurt to watch in a much better way. I remember worrying that I was going to asphyxiate. I’m starting to think if they ever manage to do me in now, it’ll either be from boredom or my eyes rolling too far back into my head.
That was especially funny to me, as I just went to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky a few weeks ago. I coudln’t help but notice how phallic most of the formations were. (Unfortunately caves are about the hardest thing to photograph, so I don’t have any to show you. Not even of the sounds.
Cartman shitting out the treasure was good for a laugh. But really–Al Gore? He’s supposed to be the target of some biting satire? Al Gore?! Isn’t that a bit like looking at New Orleans last year and running an exposé on the local dogcatcher? With all that’s been going on in the world, they couldn’t find a better target to send up than…Al Gore?
I didn’t get the “serial” thing either. Jokes only work if the audience has at least the slightest chance of knowing what they are about.
This may be real evidence that Matt and Trey are just plain tired of doing the show. If they’ve really had it, why don’t they just quit and get it over with, instead of rolling through these death throes? There’s no shame in saying, “We’ve had our run, it was good, but we’re tired, so let’s get on with other things.” Better that than to spoil the overall quality of the show with a run of lousy episodes.
I severely injured myself inhaling ice cream while laughing uncontrollably at Cartman eating the treasure and being hoisted up by the rope, but the Al Gore stuff was just incredibly lame. Why can’t they get back to just telling funny stories like they did in, say, “Li’l Crime Stoppers” or “Volcano”? They even seem to REALIZE how crappy they’re making the show – the guy on part 2 of Cartoon Wars said that line about “getting all up its own ass with messages” or whatever it was – but they keep doing it! Are they doing this on purpose?!
