So…
Using Family guy to mock the reaction the Scientologists are having toward South Park itself?
Anybody? Anybody?

That was bizzare. I think I either completely missed something between South Park and Family guy, or there was some allegory I missed in the episode.
That episode was brilliant. It wasn’t really funny, but very good. The jokes about Family guy were good too.
I don’t think this episode has much to do with Scientology, it was about the Danish cartoons. The scientology stuff was secondary at best.
I thought they did a dead on parody of the Family Guy, btw. It was hilarious how all the jokes were unrelated cutaways (which they tend to be in the regular show ;)). I’m really interested in who Parker and Stone have as the ‘writers’.
“Bury our heads in the sand” - brilliant!
For all this talk about an assault on Family Guy, it seemed far more to be an assault on people who become overly sensitive when a group says they are offended.
The Danish cartoons, yeah, but with a nod to scuttlebutt about Catholics wanting a South Park episode pulled.
Kyle had a point. Is a joke worth dying for?
Loved the Big Wheel explosion.
Nope it isn’t. But dealing with hypocritical, hateful extremists by placating them is just as distateful. You might as well ban ESPN because people riot over football games. I was hoping they’d have more free speech messages in the episode, but they didn’t really dwell on that much. Perhaps in the next episode they will.
“Will Comedy Central wuss out?..”
Heh, nice dig by Matt and Trey at CC (i’d assume this dig was related to CC pulling the “Trapped in the Closet” ep when it was supposed to re-air a couple weeks ago…)
Is this really a two-parter or was the teaser for next week’s episode fake?
The take on Family Guy was pretty dead-on, but as a topic for satire, the Muhammad cartoons feels kinda stale.
I was wondering that myself… guess we’ll have to wait to find out.
Okay, I have to admit I sympathized with Cartman during his rant. Still, this one lost steam as it went on.
I loved this episode. The allegory was still there, but it was a bit less literal than last time.
I’m a pretty big fan of Family Guy, but I can still sympathize with the jokes they made about it. It definitely has its weak points. On the other hand, I do get the feeling that Cartman’s hatred of the show comes from Cartman’s character, specifically, rather than Matt & Trey per se; they probably do get annoyed by fans who say “Wow, you must love Family Guy” but, really, isn’t that exactly what Cartman would do? Kyle loves the show.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they purposefully pulled the old switcheroo (again) and didn’t air the episode next week. Who knows if the teaser was real or not.
If you ask me, the highlight of the episode was the grandiose speech about defending free speech. “No, I like the sand idea, that sounds easier.”
My money is on “fake”.
According to the TV Guide, it really is a two-parter.
Cartman was complaining about everyone explicitly comparing “his humor” aka South Park to Family Guy and saying they were the same, not necessarily saying that because you love one you’re probably a fan of the other. More than anything, this sounds just bitter and tired enough to be from Matt and Trey’s heart (hearts? Do they share a single, bifurcated heart?).
Whoops, nevermind, the tvguide page just wouldn’t refresh for next week. Who knows if it really is a two-parter or not.
Too heavy-handed. Didn’t laugh at all. Not bad, just…not funny this week.
One thing that surprised me, though, was that they themselves didn’t show a cartoon version of Mohammed – or did they and I missed it? (I had my back to the TV while I was on the computer for part of the show.) After all, they’ve already shown a cartoon Mohammed before; if they really wanted to push the button, they could have him show up, live next door, chit chat, express opinions – ie, just like they portray Jesus on the show. Hey, that could make a good episode…Jesus and Mohammed get into a fight…or are pushed into a fight by supporters with ulterior motives (like the fight between Tweak and Craig)…hmm… Maybe we can write it on spec…
A little hamfisted, and not hilarious, but it totally made up for last week’s episode.
The danish cartoon thing was obvious, but the censorship thing also seemed like a dig at CC for pulling the cruise episode. There were some insults thrown at family guy as well, but they seemed pretty light considering we know how mean the south park guys can be. Also a few digs at themselves(Cartman makes fun of Jews all the time).
I’m very interested in seeing next week’s episode.
I thought this was the funniest “South Park” I’ve seen in a while, partly cause I pretty much hate “Family Guy” and the parody was so completely dead on (and completely accurate about why “Family Guy” is so dumb to me). Brilliant!
Could it be… crab people?
I enjoyed the show much, much more than last week’s, but it did go on for a minute or two too long. I think they took shots at several targets including themselves. They got Family Guy’s brand of humor pretty dead on and yet I thought they went pretty easy on them. I enjoy both shows but I was really expecting them to tear FG a new one. I don’t think they hate Family Guy at all. At least it didn’t seem that way.
