South Park 11/8/06

The really cool thing is how it never seems to occur to Cartman that what he’s living through is infinitely more fun and exciting than any video game.

Nor does it occur to him that he has nothing to play on the Wii, much less means to hook it to a tv (unless I am completely wrong in assuming that you need a game or disc or something to play a Wii).

You clearly have not yet played Wii Sports

Thanks to this episode, I now have a new expletive.

Science H. Logic!

And despite everything that happened to Cartman in the future, he apparently froze himself again! Kid never learns.

It’s Cartman. What do you expect? He’s possibly the least likable character in television history.

And yet…we love him…

Sounds like I missed a good one. Of course, Comedy Central repeats everything.

Didn’t they use that same comedic premise once before, when the boys were trying to get their GameSphere back?

Yeah, but that was a Towelie episode.

That’s a built-in difference right there.

“You’re the worst character ever, Towelie.”

Yeah. That was a waste of a half hour. A few funny things, but over all, not a classic.

  • Cartman not noticing (or caring about) the continuity changes.
  • Cartman on the ostrich.
  • The expanded Buch Rogers opening.
  • Time Prank Calling
  • Cartman offering the robot to the store owner (shades of Return of the Jedi?)

The episode had a lot of great scenes and gags, and I too loved how Cartman was oblivious to how cool the world around him was while in his search for the Wii.

I also loved that IT geeks will be the same 500 years from now as they are today.

But I hate that South Park cannot end a large story satisfactorily. In the last 10 minutes, Cartman fucks with the space-time continuum, and inadvertently brings about a perfect future society? In the words of Stan, “weak, dude.” Saw the same thing in the Cartman’s Father multiparter. A funny story with a “how do we end this?” ending.

Couldn’t agree more. It seems like they really labored to get to their point. My guess is that when they finished the episode, it just ran over their allotted time, so they extended it and it got a little drawn out. I’m willing to accept it, though.

I did find it funny when it was revealed what all the fighting and war was over. (for those that haven’t seen it yet.) What athiests should call themselves as a group

Somehow I could see that happening. People will find a way to fight over nothing, as many many threads in the Pit can attest.

Not that I’d ever accuse South Park of consistency, but why would anyone in The Southparkverse even consider atheism when:

–Jesus is not only real, but has a cable access show.

—Moses regularly appears at Jewbilee, where he is offered gifts of macaroni sculptures and soap sculptures and the like.

—Satan visits the earth from time to time, last time to throw an awesome halloween party.

—Jesus, Moses, various other religious figures and Semen (“Sea-Man!”) united to defeat the evil David Blaine.

Just put on whatever the hell Garrison calls himself since the sex-change operation!!

I liked how Cartman couldn’t afford the Time Prank phone because it was so outrageously priced (6000 credits), an apparent reference to the PS3’s high price.

Not perfect:

Cartman: “So, there is no war now in the future.”

Otter: “Of course there’s war! The stupid French-Chinese think they have a right to Hawaii!”

Eric pissing himself off on both sides of the time phone was worth watching for all by itself. That had me in stitches.

And thank Science that we didn’t have to hear “monkey hole” again.

…Yeah, and “pound my” in front of it.

But at least Cartmen (inadvertently) prevented a future dominated by the narrow-minded bigotry of Garrison (who is always a narrow-minded bigot even if the content of his bigotry occasionally changes).

Its not enough to have reason and logic, you also have to be a total dick to anyone that doesn’t agree with you. hehe. I loved that line.

I loved this episode! Better than part 1 IMO. My tivo keeps screwing up the quality of South Park, though and I ended up missing a lot of jokes or only piecing them together over several viewings. I had to rewind about 5 times to catch “Science H. Logic” so that took a little punch out of it but it was still hilarious. I didn’t know what the French-Chinese thought they had a right to until I read this thread just now.

This is probably the best season of South Park yet. The messages are present but toned down compared to some other seasons and the laughs are cranked all the way up to 11.
