I’m up at 5am breasfeeding, and it’s already the day’s high of 33. It doesn’t help to be clutching a 4kg hot waterbottle to myself!
You might need to try Chaddie today then Girl From Mars.
Just listening to ABC Riverina Radio, and seeing as it’s already 31 here (7.15 am), the BOM guy reckons we MIGHT have broken the overnight temp record (again).
Too friggin hot.
Does it cool at night?
I recall in Chicago in the early 90s we had a bad heatwave an hundred of people died. The experts said the reason for the deaths were that at night it didn’t cool off. It would only get down to like 88º (31ºC) and then shoot up over 100º (38ºC) in the day for weeks on end with no break
Not last night - min temp overnight here was 31.5ºC it is now nearly 35ºC at 8:30am.
Tell you what I am glad I sheared the rabbit as he does not cope at all with temps over 30ºC
(He does look a bit funny though)
It cools at night just by virtue of the sun going the fuck away.
Over the last few nights though, the temps have stayed up in the high twenties (very uncomfortable) and last night in Melbourne the temp hovered around the early thirties (too damned hot to sleep). In the urban areas of course with all that concrete and those brick houses fairly close together, any drop in temp is negated by the stored heat that continues to radiate throughout the night.
I’m in a rural area thank Christ (and in a timber house), but by 7.30 this morning I was already dousing myself in a cold shower to rid myself of a worked-up sweat. It’s gonna be another fucker of a day, but relief may be in sight with a cool change predicted to cross the region later on.
So that means tomorrow it’s only going to be 35!
30 degrees Celsius = 86 degrees Fahrenheit right now (9:06am).
40 degrees Celsius = 104 degrees Fahrenheit predicted top, probably in a couple of hours.
The aircon at work is working poorly at the moment, so I’m sweating in suit and tie in an office full of PCs trying to ignore the heat (and the work), but I just know by the end of the day there will loads of stinky around.
it wasn’t god who gave you your aircon, it was god who gave you the 43.6…
We’ve got a warmer maximum predicted today for the city (31C), but nothing as bad as the southern states yesterday.
I think I’m just wired for cold weather. Unless there’s a nice breeze I start getting uncomfortable at 25.
I had a surprisingly good sleep, though I feel somewhat unwholesome for having the a/c on all night. I keep trying to drag the cats into the study for their own good but they seem to enjoy lying in the heat.
Hot dman hot, I am coping OK because I work in an office and the kids have got aircon at home. But you try keeping the kids locked up inside for few days!
Box up some of that warm weather and ship it up here to us in the States, will you?
Some bugger done gone and pinched the heat (not that I’m complaining).
17.9ºC as of 8.00am. Overcast too so possibly rain may be in the offing.
Sorry Clothahump we seem to have run out of the warm
(wandering off to search for a jumper)
Lo I am the mighty MADRABBITWOMAN who can coax the rain from the skies.
Nothing like rain on a tin roof - my body goes into instant relaxation mode at the sound of the first drops.
I’m sure the cool change, and the rain, must have come as a wonderful relief madrabbitwoman. We had a storm here too last night, although it’s still fairly warm and humid today.
We’ve certainly cooled down a bit, but no rain here.
I’ve even got a tin roof and all.
Makes you wonder about places such as Baghdad, where in a three month period average high is 42, the lowest maximum is 35, and lowest at any point is 23.
