Sovereign Citizens-- Please tell me this is fake

Small article of interest I’ve just found, but it looks like Scotland has their own SovCits now as well.

Bongos and bagpipes… ne’er they be charaid.

(Friends. If I knew the Gaelic word for anathema, I’d’ve gone that route.)

That article is 7 years old. Scotland and even Germany has this problem and has had for a long time now.

To be sure the exact details of the nuttery is different in different countries. I think my favorite sort of SovCit nuttery is the Canadians rattling on about the UCC and about their constitutional rights. Both ideas that don’t exist in Canada but are common in the shithole country to Canada’s immediate South.

FYI to all in the thread. that blog @Love_Rhombus cited is great in general and has a number of articles tagged SovCit.

Well, sh*t. I’m really covering myself in glory these days.

Don’t they usually insist on those unconstitutional fiat Federal Reserve notes? I have never heard of a SovCit honoring another SovCit’s “accepted for value” scrip.

Hypocrites!

They just don’t accept foreign currency.

Maybe that’s why they hate America so much. Full of foreigners (according to them).

I have a regular at my store. He is a christian of some sort. Always telling us we need to go to heaven with him and we’ll be missing out. I’ve heard he has booby traps on his driveway and grows illicit weed. Once he came in and paid me with 100.00 bill; I held it up to check for water marks and he got all stupid with me about how it wasn’t real money, and the fake federal reserve money etc. blah blah blah. I wanted to ask him if I could keep it if it wasn’t “real” and not give him change back. He is a giant ass hole.

I note from the videos, with a mixture of amusement and alarm, that “sovereign citizen” is a well-recognized species among police forces everywhere. A radio call that “I’ve got a sovereign citizen on my hands here” is basically an alert of an unhinged lunatic and possible need for backup.

I feel I kinda have to apologize for my late-night guilty pleasure of watching these sovcit videos, but they really do entertain me. In this one (which, if I can exercise self-control, may be the last one I inflict on you) the individual is not only a sovereign citizen, but a “Marshall” of the fictitious sovcit government, complete with a homemade badge. Driving, of course, with fake license plates and no license.

The two highlights are when the driver calls 911 for help because his car is going to be “illegally” towed (drawing a charge of abusing the 911 service) and when, after his arrest, his wife explains to the police officer how their sovereignty and the legitimacy of their homemade plates is fully recognized by the You-Knighted-States government, only the problem is that the “average person”, such as this poor schlub of a police officer, doesn’t know about it yet.

For those who didn’t watch the video, or couldn’t stand to watch it to the end, it contains a summary of the trial outcome, which reads as follows:

Mr. Dowd would have his day in court on June 9th. 2023. At his hearing he did attempt a sovereign defense. The judge laughed at him and determined that all of his documents, his tag, IDs, and “Marshall” badge were all homemade, fraudulent … [and] illegal. The judge found him guilty of impersonation of a public servant, resisting law enforcement, and possession of false government identification. The judge sentenced him to one year of probation.

Mr. Dowd has since filed for a name change, and on June 30, 2023, he was pulled over again and arrested again for speeding, no seat belt, and driving without a license.

I picture that as:

Even better if they spell it “Martial”.

No, please continue. I can’t look away from these videos either.

Everyone should have one of these license plates:

i think this is at the heart of the sovcit mindset: they believe the ideology gives them the right to be giant assholes.

Everyone already has the right to be a giant asshole.

Escaping the consequences of one’s giant assholery is another matter entirely.

ARE YOU !^$&ING KIDDING ME? I would have thought 6 mos or a year in prison, then parole.

'Spose this breaks his probation. Hope the penalties are more severe.

From the videos I’ve seen, that is more first amendment auditors. SovCits are more entitled idiots.

I wonder if that was the whole idea.

“Oh, this shithead is going to reoffend for sure. Let’s give him probation and see what the fuck happens. This is gonna be good.”

(Probably not, a judge wouldn’t do that, but it’s fun to imagine.)
