Okay, as you look at my sig, you may find it disctintly ugly looking. Quite frankly, the bold names directly over top of each other create a poor balance of space.
I’d be much happier with the overall look of the sig if I could get the attribution “-Polycarp” to be somewhat indented in the second line.
I have no clue how to do this. No matter how many spaces I put in front of the attribution, it just shows up on the far left of the line.
As the quote cannot really be lengthened or shortened, indenting the attribution seems the only way to go. Is there an HTML tag I can add (and if so, how) that would move the attribution over?
Actually, I used alt+0160. That will force a space also. The disadvantage is that it can be difficult to tell just how many spaces you’ve entered as nothing is displayed for them in the edit box. It merely moves the cursor forward.
Well, tried both codes, and in preview I just got the phrases “alt+0160” or " " over and over again. Do I need tags around them, or should there be other special prefixes and suffixes?
Sorry- this coding stuff is something I’ve never really delved into before. Generally, I’m just proud of myself when I get the bold and italic tags correct.
Aaaaah. So it shows up as characters in preview, but turns into spaces in regular submit. Right.
Where’s that rock I was looking for?
BTW, to the mods- have you noticed the number of ‘almost’ names signing up to the boards? We had KneadsToKnow showing up recently, and now faydrus has signed up.
Admittedly, I haven’t seen anything trollish out of the few posts I’ve seen of Kneads, so maybe I’m just being ultra-paranoid. But the thought of the original Phaedrus returning sends way to many shivers down my spine.
I’m sorry, John. Let me explain further. alt+0160 means, hold down the alt key, type 0160, and release the alt key. When you release the alt key, your cursor should move forward one space. You need no code tags.
Yep, yer a real Space Corrado now. What the heck does “corrado” mean anyway? It sounds vaguely Spanish and I’m assuming the Volkswagen cats didn’t choose it entirely for it’s lilting cadence. I know “corrade” is a verb meaning “to abrade or erode by abrasive action,” but I think that comes from Latin.
Corrado is the Italian descendant of the old Latin name “Corradius” or “Conradius.” Actually, in Italy, it’s much more popular as a first name- Corrado is roughly equivalent to the German Konrad, and means “bold” or “wise advisor”, though in my case, it probably more roughly translates to “bold wise ass.”
As for my lineage with the name- my grandfather (Giovanni Corrado) came from the village of Corrado, Italy, just north of Campo de Baso in Abruzzi. We’re not sure if the town was named after the fact that half the families there have the last name Corrado, or if everyone took their last name from the name of the town.
As for the Volkswagen- I can just image the amusement with which Italians recieved the new car. Imagine an ad campaign for the New Volkwagen Ted and you can see the humor possibilities. Needless to say, my family bought a hell of a lot of Volkswagen brochures, t-shirts, and jackets when the Corrado came out.
The only famous “Corrado” as a last name that I’ve been able to find (barring Emperor Corrado of the Holy Roman Empire; he was German, and preferred to go by Konrad) was a 12th Century astronomer. In fiction, I know that the uncle in the HBO series The Sopranos is Corrado Soprano; in addition, Bill Hickey’s character in Prizzi’s Honor is Don Corrado Prizzi. (Needless to say, after seeing that movie, “Want a cookie?” became a bit of a catchphrase for me.)
That answer your question? (And I drag this lineage out even further when posting to a “Where did you get your Username from?” thread, going so far as to explain the weirdness of me being John Corrado.)
