Spam now from Lagos instead of Nigeria

Too long to reproduce here, but interesting that the Nigerians have given up on me, but this fine chap from Lagos made me an offer I also can refuse. The email is a tiny bit more literate than many, but after all, he is a Deputy General Manager of a bank!.

And he got my address from an unimpeachable source, “from a reliable fellow!”

A snip from the long letter:

“Though, I know that this proposal may make you apprehensive and worried, but I assure you that all will be well at the end. Before proceeding, I wish to introduce myself. I am Tony Okocha, Deputy General Manager, (Credit Controls)with Standard Trust Bank Limited, Lagos. I got your contact from a reliable fellow.”

Umm, Lagos is the capitol of Nigeria, unless I’m being whooshed.

This made me wonder, too. :dubious: I think I can hear a very faint “whoosh” somewhere, but I can’t make out just where it’s coming from.

Extreme nitpick: Strictly speaking, the capital of Nigeria is in fact Abuja, moved there from Lagos in 1991, but Lagos is the largest city and the financial center. And the last time I checked, it was still very much in Nigeria.

Well, close, anyway…

From Here , Lagos used to be the capitol, but it’s now Abuja.

PS – I’m not really that smart – friends lived in Lagos for a couple of years, so I got to learn a bit about the country.

Oh, shit, no whoosh. Never been able to keep up on my geography, so thought Lagos was a separate country.

Well, at least it’s the “financial capital,” so this letter must be legitimate, eh?

Well, it was a British colony at one time.

Mandatory nitpick whenever a thread refers to seats of government: A capitol is a building – the city in which it lies is the capital.
