Speaker Trump?

Yes. Trump does not get a third term in 2028 and so the House considers electing him Speaker.

The assumption in this thread is that Speaker is not an endaround the 22nd Amendment. They honestly want Trump to serve as Speaker of the House.

He doesn’t do any work now, why would that change?

Are you implying that interior decorating isn’t work?

Deleted because it offended the OP.

That is the opposite of the thread.

So please don’t tell me what I meant.

SoTH is an active and exhausting job, requiring one to listen to everybody and build consensus. Not a single bit of that is Trump capable of doing. He would just sit there and bark commands, with no one but himself to make them happen. And when he isn’t getting what he wants, his only strategy is to grind everything to a halt. It would be the most feckless, do-nothing speakership in history. Meanwhile he would be running everyone around him ragged, accomplishing nothing.

There is nobody in Washington who doesn’t know this. As for using it to get him back into the Presidency, you’d have to murder Vance to get him out from behind that desk. Everybody knows that too. I think they’d run into a real surprise when the Secret Service stopped them from doing it. The SS doesn’t care about your plan, they don’t intend to lose any Presidents on their watch.

That the Speaker of the House has to actually do things, like build consensus, is a great reason why he should be elected to the position. The Republicans would get nothing done.

Then the assumptions we have to make argue against the actual character of both the House and the President himself. It might be easier if the question involved an anonymous House and President.

Of course, he could be the Speaker credential-wise. Yet as has been pointed out, it’s a tough job in general, if not tougher than Presidenting, certainly harder than he is working.

The only President to later hold any federal office was Andrew Johnson, who returned as Senator after 6 years.

Bannon has already said enough. If there is a fix in play, it will be part of the campaign. The MAGA’s would much rather vote for Trump than Vance (or Marcos). If this is the way to accomplish that, fine with them.

My feeling is the GOP will be happy to be rid of Trump since that’s what the Constitution says. No longer have to fear or feign respect for him.

Sorry to the OP that I missed the “sinecure” status and jumped to the conclusion, following Bannon’s elusive remarks and Trump’s non-denial denial last week, that this would be the only reason.

I’ve just read through the thread that does posit that chance, along with others. I reckon we won’t know his plans till early 2027. Maybe he is just trolling the Democrats.

Trolling Democrats is definitely part of his purpose. It’s also in his interest to discourage any Republicans from starting their campaigns for the 2028 nomination, because once that process seriously starts, he’s a lame duck.
