Man. I thought “Anna Nicole Liked Downers” was going to be the press-stopping shocker headline of the day, and then I saw “Britney Leaves Rehab after Less than 24 Hours.”
They should really give us time to catch our breath in between revelations that startling.
After shaving off her own hair (I think the stylists in the shop refused to do it), she leaves the shop to go get tatoos.
Now, in the video bytes I have seen, as she is leaving, she pulls the hood of her jacket up to cover up the baldness, apparently embarassed by it.
When I first saw that, I thought “Wait. She goes out into public, shaves her head (and the papparazzi are standing right outside the clear plate glass window taking pictures), and then decides to be embarrased or bashfull about it?”
What does her action mean? Does it help us determine whether or not she is making her hair styling (or potentially any other) decisions rationally?
OT: One of the conspiracy theories I am beginning to entertain about Anna Nichole is that her entourage kept her dazed and confused, on purpose, so that they can ride the gravy train as long as possible.
Do celebrities like Brittany have to put up with much more high drama (from interpersonal clashes) or manipulation from their posse than a regular set of friends?
Well, if we’re going to quote the Daily Mail and Extra, let’s quote the Enquirer (I know, consider the source)
The online version reports that hours after getting her head shaved Britney tried walking into traffic twice and was rescued at the last second by her staff. Also a short time later she was rushed to a doctor after saying she was going to kill herself and then taking too many Xanax.
According to their version this whole affair was triggered when Kevin warned her that she’d fail a drug test and hed’d get custody. Well, that part agrees with Extra.
Since she’s been in show business since she was a preteen, her sense of reality is most likely skewed.
She’s used to being in the public eye and since she hasn’t had a career to put her there for about 3 years, it seems like she thinks it’s normal to feel she has to put herself in the spotlight by any means necessary…yet complaining about the attention.
Seems like Britney’s life has been mapped out by her mom. Little kid beauty pageants, Mickey Mouse Club auditions, etc. Like her mother was constantly spoon-feeding the dream of fame and fortune to little Britney to the point where Britney can’t even remember if it’s her dream or her mother’s.
Maybe she came to the conclusion that none of this craziness was what she really wants. She has obviously benefitted from the fame and the fortune, and maybe she’s gone too far with the alcohol and/or drug abuse, but maybe she thought (in a haze, perhaps) that the one thing she has control over in her crazy ‘paparazzi-hounded-divorcing-a-low-life-dragging-two-kids-around-trying-to-make-a-comeback’ life is her appearance.
Maybe after having the argument (if that’s what it was) with her mother, most likely about her life and/or career, she decided to shave her head so her mother couldn’t put her up on the pedestal of hotness anymore without Britney’s permission.
Then again, maybe she was drunk, and it was just a crazy stunt. Personally, I don’t think the problems Britney is having can be summed up that neatly.
It’s sad to see her spin out of control. But it’s even sadder to think of what this could do to her kids. Until she gets the bats out of the belfrey, those kids shouldn’t be in her custody.
A news article this morning said that Kevin Federline is seeking sole custody of their children. That suggests that the “drug testing” theory might have something to it. Men generally don’t try to get sole custody unless they think that mommy is dangerously unstable.
You know, I’d hate to be the judge in this divorce case. I mean, you’ve got the choice of awarding custody to someone who’s potentially unstable, drug addicted, and not the sharpest crayon in the box or to someone who abandoned his children by another woman (including bailing one before it was born), and is most notible for being a “sponge” (not to mention, IIRC, has been videoed doing illicit drugs, and when shown in a commercial as the “french fry guy” at a fast food joint, was blasted for being an insult to fast food workers). Personally, I’d think that the best thing to do is stick the kids in foster care.
Why does being “an industry” preclude her being vulnerable? As Craig Ferguson, long may he run, pointed out, she’s 25, with two kids and a divorce behind her. She’s been in show business since she was 8. Did she ever get to be a normal kid? Did she really have a lot of choice in becoming an industry? If she’s just some dumb girl who’s been in the hands of corporate wanks her whole life, it’s no wonder she’s screwed up. Of course she’s vulnerable-- she’s a human being, isn’t she? With an insane life, unlimited money, and people all around her who just want stuff from her. Have mercy.
She’s never had any other life. She doesn’t know what anonymity and privacy ARE. Everything she does is a media event. How well would any of us hold up under that kind of scrutiny? I know, at 25, I would certainly have embarrassed myself had cameras been following me every time I went out. And I didn’t have a substance abuse problem, a loser ex, an industry mom, and 2 kids. Why so quick to judge, and so harshly?
So compassion is out of the question for Britney because she has money and fame? That says more about you than about what Britney deserves.
Pity the poor girl. She’s obviously a miserable person who is falling apart, and as Mr. Ferguson said, no amount of money can help a person when they have problems like this. I hope she wises up for her kids’ sake. I wish people would just IGNORE her. Let her fade out of the public eye rather than ridicule her. But hey, if you get your jollies by mocking Britney Spears, go to, though other hobbies are more fulfilling and uplifting, I hear.
Jackelope, I looked to see if anyone had commented on the monologue at the time (on these boards, I mean) and yours is the first mention I’ve seen.
I always Tivo his show because I think his monologue is more entertaining than most. (I don’t always watch the rest of it, and the set pieces are horrible). It’s mostly disposable entertainment, but every so often he does something real, like this, and I have come to admire him a lot.
