Special Study Module Co-ordinator, Go Fuck Yourself

This is lame, and of no interest to anyone, but I’m angry. So there.

In November we were given the title for a Special Study Module, our group’s was “Oral Contraceptives”. These modules are a mickey mouse thing that everyone passes, you just have to write an essay and quote a few research papers. In the history of the course NO ONE has ever failed, no matter how shit their project was.

In our one Guidance session, which was not with the staff Co-ordinator who set the topic (she was busy) we were told to do a broad-based essay, on the history, efficacy, risks, benefits and interactions of OCPs. This we did, and handed it in, on time, on Jan 10th.

NONE of the other groups have even finished their projects yet, either because they couldn’t meet with their Co-ordinators, or because they couldn’t find the necessary research. The date for doing oral presentations has had to be postponed from Jan 31st to April 5th because of that.

So, I was seriously pissed off to get an email from the Co-Ordinator telling us that we hadn’t answered the questions in the title she set (which we were never given) and would have to re-do the 4000 word essay.
She can Fuck off.
We submitted it over 2 months ago, with a presentation due on April 5th, and you want us to re-write it now?
We did what we were told in the guidance session, were told we had done an excellent project, completed it on time and NOW you tell us we have 3 weeks to re-write the whole thing or all 10 of us in the group fail Evidence Based Medicine.

The thing is, the 10 of us are spread out over 3 hospitals on clinical rotation now, not in lectures like we were before Xmas, 1 of the group has a small child and only attends part-time and several others don’t have internet access at home and would have to come into college to re-write their piece, meaning missing rotations. Some of the group don’t have English as a first language. Because of that editing and formatting that project took me 2 weeks, and that was AFTER everyone handed me their submissions. It’s going to take a hell of a lot longer than 3 weeks to re-organise the damn thing again, and the title is so specific that it’s not like we could just chop and change our original project.

So, lady, we can’t be expected to write an essay when we don’t have the title, and you have had ample opportunity in the last 2 months to read our submission and query anything you found remiss.

If you volunteer to co-ordinate a project and then realise it clashes with other commitments, don’t be surprised when the finished project is not exactly what you thought it would be.

We worked harder than everyone else, and we’re not backing down by re-writing. If you try and fail us we fully intend to appeal to the Dean of Medicine, and the Junior and Senior Deans. So don’t even try it.
