Speeding Cameras and License Plate "paint"

The city council here in Charlotte has approved the use speeding cameras to take pictures of speeding vehicles and then issue $50 fines to the owner based on the license plate of the vehicle. they’ve chosen 14 “corridors” that have had a high number of accidents. they also dropped the speed limit from 45mph to 35mph in some of those corridors.

Does this “paint” for the license plate work? http://www.phantomplate.com/

As I understand, these cameras are radar based but radar detectors don’t detect them.

The redlight cameras here flash when taking pictures and that’s how the paint works for them. I’m not sure if these speed cameras flash or not??

Please do not ask how to break the law on SDMB.

'Round these here parts this time of year you can’t hardly see the license plate for all the mud…

there is no law against the paint or the plate covers (yet). The speeding citations are not the same if you were pulled over by a cop…no points on your license…no insurance notification…if you fight a ticket, you don’t go to a court but to an arbitrator paid for the by company that owns the cameras (and take about 85% of the citation revenue).

the caked on mud is a pretty good idea.

Check your local laws again. I think somewhere in there you’ll find a reference to “altering your plates in any manner whatsoever” or something similar which pretty much means you can’t do this.

Can you not just try to observe the speed limits?

I feel for ya…You ask a simple question sometimes here, and all you get are preachy replies.
Geez guys, I never have understood that mentality

I have no idea if these things work…I usually don’t try to post a reply unless I think I have an answer.

Most states have laws on the books making it illegal to obscure your license plate. I’m not absolutely sure that those laws apply here, but I’m going to close this thread anway.
