The word is “numnah”, which sounds a whole lot like “numbnuts”. Kid was way better composed than I would have been, even when the whole audience was cracking up.
I knew exactly what it was about, but for some reason, I love the simplicity of this thread title, since “Spelling Bee Contestant Gets Strange Word” is in itself as surprising a headline as “Famous Person Does Something Stupid,” if you catch my drift.

Nice of that video clip site to put their watermark right over the top of the word he’s spelling, making it illegible.
