Good. I think it’s time to stop and re-think this thing. I hate the idea of a re-invention as well, though.
It’s far too soon for a reboot. Rushing out the restart of a franchise (only 18 months?) will just result in crap nobody will watch. They should abandon it entirely, and concentrate on something new.
Didn’t I just today read that John Malkovich had signed on to play the Vulture in Spider-Man 4?
ETA: Yes, I did. So what’s that mean now?
Bor-ing.
i would rather watch another star wars trilogy than a reboot of spiderman. what “contemporary human problem” could peter parker possibly face? the perils of high school haven’t changed much since Danny Zukko was racing for pink slips by the aqueduct. In fact, they might have actually gotten exponentially more mundane.
Boring? Grappling with normal teen problems in addition to super hero problems is one of the things that made Spider-Man so popular to begin with.
Boy, Spider-Man really isn’t having much luck these days, is he? The Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark that was supposed to start previews next month isn’t anywhere close to being ready to start rehearsals (they’re still renovating the theatre), as the budget has soared out of control. It’s likely it won’t even open at all now.
Why not reboot it? Why should a superhero movie be in continuity with a previous director’s vision?
Remember a comic called Batman: Black and White? Not in continuity with the regular series. Hell, the stories weren’t even in continuity with each other. But this was the best Batman series ever printed.
We only got one movie with Parker in high school, the most fertile and convincing milieu for the character ever. By all means, do a reboot!
Spidermans been done right. Move on to something else.
Why do I get the feeling this is going to be a failure of Nipples-On -The- Spider-Suit proportions?
In general, I agree with this sentiment. Continuity is nice sometimes, but a good story shouldn’t be shackled to it. OTOH, I really don’t care for another Spider-Man.
Worse than that. I have a real suspicion that, through some unthinkable Faustian bargain, Taylor Lautner will end up as Spidey. They’ll put a clear patch on the belly of the suit so his 6-pack is visible at all times.
I think they should kill it. Or re-boot it with an entirely different cast, writer and director. And here’s why … three fucking sequels? Come on, man. Make it frickin’ TV series if you just want to pump them out one after the other for the cash.
A re-boot would be a much more interesting movie than watching the same movie, with slightly better special effects, for the fourth time.
This is precisely what they have done.
Tobey Maguire will be 35 this summer. That fact alone makes it time for a reboot.
I’ll be very very surprised if this opens at all.
Well … in that case I went points off the back end.
They already made the suit, poses, and settings look perfect. I can’t see a reboot that wants to distance itself from the old franchise not taking these elements and screwing them up.
Well they could do a batter job with Green Goblin’s costume…
No shit. Complaining about this theme in Spider-Man means you probably shouldn’t be watching Spider-Man.
Tobey Maguire is too old and he sucks. Kirsten Dunst sucks, and Sam Raimi sucks.
Three reasons to reboot the franchise.
The three most recent movies were abysmal pieces of garbage.
