Spider-Man teams up with the MCU

News here.

It’s official that Spider-Man will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony will be retaining the movie rights (creative control and distribution) to the character but a deal has been struck to have Spider-Man be a part of the MCU. He will first appear in the Captain America: Civil War and then have his own MCU movie in 2017. This is a new Spider-Man and not the Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield versions. No word if it will be Peter Parker or Miles Morales.

The entire line-up with the MCU list has been shifted to accomadate the new movie.

I’m excited but worried with the creative control still resting with Sony. The most recent Spider-Man movies don’t inspire a lot of confidence with the team there. What I most want to see is Joss Whedon getting ahold of the character’s dialogue in the Avengers movies.

Marvel’s recently announced that they’re done with origin stories. I hope that carries over to this third iteration of the Spider-Man movies. I really don’t need to see him get bit by that fucking spider again.

In related news, if I never see Bruce Wayne’s parents killed again, it’ll be too soon.

I’m excited but also pissed that means pushing back the other Marvel movies.

I’m annoyed that they’re recasting. The movies weren’t great but Garfield was great in them. He was totally nailing that role in my opinion.

I liked Garfield as well but I think they need to cast someone who plays even younger. Spider-Man should be a kid to differentiate him from the other Avengers.

I hope they do a good job. The MCU’s success was mainly due to the fact that they didn’t have Spider-Man to lean on and had to build their B List characters.

Has anyone seen anything official that mentions Peter Parker? Miles Morales would be one way of getting around the “not again” fatigue.

I hope not. I hated the Milo Morales introduction. Peter Parker is and always will be Spider-Man.

Bummer. I’ve always hated Spiderman and was quite happy to not have him anywhere near the MCU.

It would be hilarious if Sony gave up the FF and X-Men too and Marvel Comics decided not to blow up the Marvel Universe in response.

I disagree. Garfield was too smooth to be Spider Man. Peter Parker was always awkward, nerdy, and always just a bit overwhelmed. Garfield is too good looking and was too cool for school to be Spidey

They’ll keep him as Peter Parker for a broader appeal I’d think. As much as the movies have great callbacks to the Marvel Universe as we see it today, they still have to make money from the non die-hards, and most people just know him as Peter Parker.

Hell, I love Marvel and Spiderman and even I didn’t know that there was a new one. How did he get powers? Surely they didn’t just throw a spider on him

I’m disappointed that Captain Marvel is getting pushed back six months. Black Panther and the Inhumans, on the other hand…

ITYM Fox.

I hope they have Joel Schumacher produce the new Spider-Man movie, so we can get nipples on the Spidey suit.

He’s part of the “Ultimate” universe that arguably a lot of the films, including non-Disney ones, are based on. Peter Parker did exists in that universe too but

died in a large event that many thought was going to be the end of the Ultimate universe

From what I understand, he was bitten by a spider that was part of the same project.

Miles was part of the first official crossover between the 616 universe and the Ultimate one (although it can be argued that Marvel Zombies, as it started in Ultimate and eventually touched 616, did it first to an extent) in “Spider-Men” when 616 Peter Parker met Miles Morales. As someone noted earlier, later this year Marvel is having an event where apparently these two universes are going to collide and what is left will be a mixture of both. I’m a couple of months behind, but the last time I read anything with Miles Morales in it he was hanging out with the All-New X-Men (616 X-men from when Cyclops etc were teenagers brought forward in time for “reasons” and now stuck there), who had accidentally been thrust into the Ultimate universe by a new mutant that couldn’t control his/her (I forget) powers.

ETA:
IIRC a lot of the “Donald Glover for Spider-Man” push was because of the existence of Miles.

This, but I also figure it’s going to make some people really, really happy, while it will only annoy me for some subsection of a two hour movie or three. So it’s probably a net positive for humanity, and isn’t that what we want our superheroes to be?

Peter hasn’t been portrayed as a full on sweater vest nerd for several decades. By at least the 80’s he was semi cool and courting a fashion model. Garfield’s Peter was pretty dorky and only really ‘smooth’ around Gwen.

But my praise was more about the feeling that he was perfect when he was in costume.

I found Garfield’s Peter and Spider-man to be almost completely unlikable. I am still of the opinion that Tobey Maguire and Sam Rami had nailed it. If Sony hadn’t tried to make Spider-man 3 too toytasic by introducing too many characters, it would have been good.

He’s older but I want Donald Glover to play the part.

I don’t.

I read that as Danny…
