Reports say RDJ will be in Capt America 3

Apparently the notion that Downey would be returning for an Iron Man 4 is mistaken. Variety and the Hollywood Reporter are saying he’s actually going to be back in Captain America 3, which will be a beginning of the Marvel Civil War story arc.

Sigh. I really don’t want them to do that story.

Maybe they could do a better job of it than the comic writers did. I thought the writing in that story arc sucked.

No comments? I’m surprised…this is pretty big news.

Civil War is the story that got me REALLY into Marvel comics (I had just been reading X-Men up until then). I’d love to see it in the movies.

How can they do Civil War with only a handful of superhumans? At most they could get Civil Barfight.

They’re about to introduce a shitload of new characters via the Netflix series and AoS. I guess that could be part of it. But they’ll have to adjust the plot considerably to fit in better with the MCU.

I’ve enjoyed what movies I’ve seen, but I can’t say I knew there was a plan that had been publicly discussed. Was he not going to be in 3?

Oh I got Captain America and Iron Man mixed up. And apparently there are some movies for me to catch up on.

I thought maybe they were going to be using different actors.

RDJ is signed on for Avengers 2 and 3 and that was it. There’s been speculation that he was in negotiations to be in another Marvel movie and everyone thought it would be a fourth Iron Man film. Instead, he’s going to be in the third Captain America movie and possibly start a storyline that will make Cap and him enemies.

If they do Civil War, I doubt it will be the same storyline as in the comic books. The few characters left that had a secret identity were all revealed when the SHIELD files were uploaded.

I hope Deadpool makes an appearance. He won’t, but I can dream.

Pretty sure Deadpool is under Fox.

Yeah, not seeing how Civil War would work when there’s only really a handful of characters in the MCU so far, though I thought it was already determined that the MCU is headed towards Infinity Gauntlet? I guess that one is almost as tough to do as Civil War though.

I wonder how regretful Marvel is that they broke up their characters between 3 major studios. Doesn’t Fox have Xmen, Sony have Spiderman and Fantastic Four and Universal have the rest? Who got Antman? Penisher?

This chart may help.

IIRC, Sony bought the specific movie rights to SpiderMan and his “standard” villains, same thing with Fox and X-men and Fantastic Four. So any other character who isn’t covered specifically or implicitly by one of those contracts (which of course are not publicly available) is still owned by Marvel, now Disney. So Marvel would easily be able to make a Dr. Strange movie, but probably not a Sub-Mariner movie.

That is awesome. Though they should have had Stan Lee be a giant circle that everything else is superimposed on. So Universal bought Namor separately & solo? That’s an odd purchase.

How the hell can they do civil war without Spiderman?

What Netflix series?

There will be four series on Netflix focusing on the ‘street level’ hero types.

Power Man
Daredevil
Jessica Jones
Iron Fist

That’s if I recall correctly. Each will be its own miniseries leading to a Defenders thing somehow.
