Spider-Man teams up with the MCU

He’s too old for this shit…

I have this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that if they intend to go with Miles Morales as Spidey, the part will ultimately go to Jayden Smith. :frowning:

Not going to happen. Jaden doesn’t work unless Will gets to produce, and Marvel is too big of a control freak itself to allow that to happen. You think they want the Fresh Prince hanging around the set and arguing with them?

They’re probably just go with some kid called Chris. It’s worked so far.

He’s only been bad in After Earth. Got good-to-decent reviews in Karate Kid and Pursuit of Happyness. Don’t remember the consensus on Day The Earth Stood Still.

Point being, it wouldn’t be the worst casting in the world.

Seems like the Smith kids have engendered a lot of ill will simply for being the Smith kids.

I rewatched the 2002 Spider-Man with my kids last night. It, uh, does not hold up. At all. JK Simmons is the only watchable role in the movie.

Whoever it is should be young. The actor shouldn’t be older than 20 and 18 would be better. It would also be better if it’s NOT a big name.

I suppose you are right. But can I still be pissed that it means another 8 months waiting for Inhumans?

That would put a new spin on the role.

Garfield was a good Spider-Man but he was cocky as Peter Parker which wasn’t in and of itself bad but to better differentiate him as a hero in the MCU I think they should go with the High School student, doesn’t know where his next buck is coming from, kind of a sad sack version of Peter Parker. He could still be cocky and jokey once he has the mask on.

And I am sure, as others have said, there will be no origin story. They know better than that.

I agree. When they were in talks to “share” the character, I thought the perfect compromise was to let Sony keep Peter and their Spiderman universe and then let MCU use Miles. Similar to the Quicksilver situation.

I think it was the other way around. Glover saying “Why can’t I be Spiderman” I believe led eventually to the creation of Miles.
Sidenote- Glover got to voice Miles on the Spiderman cartoon recently.

I think he’s too old now (I think Miles should be played by an actual teenager) but Tristan Wilds from Season 4 of the Wire would have been great.

Not a hoax! Not a What If…!

I wouldn’t mind if they did something with his origin but winked at the audience the whole time. Spidey gets in a conversation with another hero and describes the spider biting stuff but the flashback doesn’t match or doesn’t forward the description. Something clever. But I agree, we don’t need to rehash the origin again, we don’t need to see Uncle Ben bite it while trying to wrestle a guy in a 7-11, and I don’t think we need anything in depth to explain the webs. “Hey I got web shooters, watch this!”

Watched the first two last year with my son, and I respectfully disagree 110% with you, as I thought it still looked great. Even after watching all of the other Marvels movies (and the dark/gritty Nolan made/produced DC movies), we both enjoyed 'em.

Think Toby did great and JK Simmons is still awesome.

BTW I think Feige did indeed say it would be Peter Parker, so Morales is out. That said, they could still cast an African American in the role…which would be fine. But Peter Parker IS Spider-Man IMHO.

I think they both hold up, but there is some stuff that they just wouldn’t do nowadays.

The Green Goblin’s “join me Spiderman!” scene is more like something out of Power Rangers than the current style of superhero movie.

In all fairness, that scene sucked balls back then too, and everyone knew it.

Well, this could be good news…if they get it right. I was not a fan of Andrew Garfield’s movies. He was too old and frankly, the movies sucked. I actually liked Toby McGuire, and would actually not mind seeing a continuation of his story line. But, here we are, another genesis and another actor.

I agree that Peter Parker is, for me, the one and only Spider-Man. The actor must be young enough to pass for high school age kid.

I wonder how this would impact the Infinity War, which originally had the Inhumans movie come out before it.

This is terrific news for fans of super hero movies, which according to the box office, is most people!

Seconded. The first two Tobeys remain terrific, and Garfield is really quite bad: too emo-cool in the first one, and an insufferable blubber-baby in the second. Plus the wisecracks as Spidey work better on print than they do on film, which Raimi had the good sense to minimize. Garfield’s Peter/Spidey is a jerk, not just pre-Uncle Ben’s death, but after, too.

Can’t say I have an opinion one way or the other about the web-slinger joining the MCU, except that after 5 movies (less than half which are any good), it seems appropriate to give the character a rest for a while instead of the urgency to integrate him back into a new batch of films.

Other than his apparent lone feature film, it’s not like he’s being shoehorned into the movies for no real reason. Spidey is an integral part of the Civil War story and he is a card-carrying member of the Avengers

They’re going to have to put in something about his origin, since he had to have gotten his powers some time after Avengers. If he were already on the scene at the time, surely he would have played some part in the Battle of New York. But a two or three minute re-cap should be plenty.
