Spider Thread!

I was once living in a more rural part of Maryland where we would be plagued by large wolf spiders around the house in the fall when they became very active. One day, I went to the small utility/gardening room where I kept a pair of old boots and socks for working in the garden. I dutifully banged the boots to check for spiders – none, good. I slipped on a large, grungy sock before putting on a boot and felt something moving under the sole of my foot! Something large, soft and furry! It came shooting up my leg and out of the sock to land on my hand - a very large wolf spider! It leapt off my hand onto the floor and paused, long enough for me to grab a boot and obliterate it in a burst of panic and adrenaline. I had the shakes for quite awhile, thinking how lucky I was that it didn’t sink it’s fangs into me… and how soft and furry it felt against my skin! Like a mouse!

A few years ago, my car got infested by spiders. It was awful.

I have two spider stories. The first was while on a canoe trip. I am usually very easy-going about spiders while camping. I am in their territory after all. I was sitting on some rocks, down by the water watching some people cliff-diving. My butt was on one boulder, my feet stretched out onto another rock. After a while I glanced down to see a HUGE Mo-Fo Dock Spider (AKA Nursery Web Spider sunning itself beside my naked toes. It was larger than my hand span.

EIIIIIEEE! I slooooowly moved my feet. I felt the spider could have that rock.
The second one was during basic training. One hot afternoon out on our field Ex, we were being seriously jacked up by our irate Master-Corporal. He was yelling, I remember clearly, about showing a lack of personal discipline - like not standing still while at attention.
We were standing stock still, not moving, not itching when I felt it.
A spider.
It was cruising along the collar of my combat shirt, then yes, into the V-neck. I felt it explore along the edge of my bra, up one breast, across and down the other.
To my relief it scooted out again.
I didn’t move.
While my instructor went on about how little personal discipline we had.

Pervy spider.

I might be sick and twisted, but all these pics are making me   because I just think spiders are so beautiful. The garden spider and the huntsman spider are especially gorgeous.

…I know, I’m weird…

My spider story is here.

Well belated congrats, I didn’t realize you had actually married astrogirl.

Thanks! 4th anniversary coming next month (note to self)…
