I used to go to these back in the early 2000’s, where I was introduced to “No Neck Joe”, “Happy Tree Friends” and so many other twisted/interesting animations. I found out that Regal Cinemas is having a special brand new “Spike And Mike’s Animation Extravaganza 2025” this weekend, and I’ve got my tix. Anyone else been to one of these in the past?
Yeah, my dad and I used to go, back in the day. Both the regular and the “Sick and Twisted” versions of the festival, which is where I first saw Beavis and Butthead before they got picked up by MTV.
I used to go to the Sick and Twisted festival in NYC. Saw Bevis and Butthead hit frogs with bats at one of those. That was many, many moons ago. Many. Wow. So many. . ..
I used to go a lot in the 80s. I’m pleasantly surprised that it’s still going on. They did promotions at the campus radio station where I worked and my friend group became good and lasting friends with Spike and the rest of the crew. A few of my friends ended up working for Spike for a while and one is still in the industry.
The last show of the run used to be an extra midnight show where they showed some of the regular tour and also stuff too spicy for kids. Even better, I got to go to a few private showings where he’d show things from his private collection like the banned Warner Brother films like Black Coal and a Betty Boop meant only for insiders. Any of that can be found on line now but back then it was nearly completely unavailable.
If it’s anything like the old days, it will be a hoot.
Well, they promised a new “No Neck Joe”. ![]()
I was a regular at the “Sick & Twisted” versions in the early ‘90s. The one where the guy runs out of toilet paper really lived up to the theme.
SUMUNABISCH! has a permanent place in my vocabulary. (Lupo the Butcher)
And here in Chicago too! Thanks for letting me know!
I just checked and there are six movie theaters within thirty miles doing this festival.
Thirty miles of me, I mean.
I just got out from the showing, and it was great! The fact that I just got on the MAX train and am sitting next to a couple of young people dressed as The Fairy Oddparents is the icing on the cake.
That’s great!
I used to go to Sick and Twisted in Seattle in the late 90s…and then would go to the screenings at SDCC in the 2010s. I had totally forgotten about No-Neck Joe until I saw the event poster at a Regal theater a few weeks ago.
I went to this. I was disappointed. I didn’t think it was very good.
