I always get a little shudder thinking of people I know IRL reading what I’ve written here, because this is like my secret diary. I’m writing down what I really feel, which isn’t necessarily what everyone needs to know!
My mom and kids know that I post here and what my username is, but I don’t think they spend any time reading in here. My fiancé doesn’t know the first thing about the Dope or it’s place in my life. We’re going to need to talk about that sometime…
Aieee! Look what I’ve done now! :smack:
Pffffffeh. I’m not worried. Why should I be?
…What was that noise behind me?
Will Rogers quote (or at least from someone playing Will Rogers):
“Just live your life so that you won’t be afraid to sell the Family Parrot to the Town Gossip.”
And don’t write on the Board anything that you wouldnm’t be afraid to let anyone else read.
Just another reason to be 1.) Polite; and 2.) Discrete.
I don’t have a separate online persona; if anything I’m more honest here than IRL. But that’s exactly the problem. There are some things that I keep private and don’t tell coworkers, family, certain friends/acquaintences, etc. I wouldn’t really want them knowing everything I post here. But it’s not exactly a site people stumble across all the time. So hopefully no one will find the REAL taxi78cab!
No offense, but this very issue has popped up here many times in the past several years. I note that you’ve been a member since 2000. I’m not sure how you’ve knowledge of this has bypassed you so entirely, or why it is just now such a revelation. In fact, the following statement has been part of the rules/registration agreement for quite some I believe:
Finally,
This was asked many times during my tenure as a mod. The request is almost never granted.
I have a couple of friends who know how important the Dope is to me, and who know my screen name – but I’ve been unable to convert them, despite my habit of sending links to threads they must read.
Family, coworkers – I don’t say anything about any of them here that I wouldn’t be happy to defend if called on.
And I don’t post on my love life, so there’s no TMI stuff out there to come back and bite me in the ass. Which may or may not be my idea of a good time, if you know what I mean.
