Remember Happy Days? You know, Richie, The Fonz, the whole Cunningham clan?
Trivia question for ya: How many spinoffs were there from that show?
- Mork and Mindy
- Joanie loves Chachi (sp?)
- Laverne and Shirley
Were there any others? We’ll accept spinoffs of spinoffs…
I think there was a spinoff of Mork and Mindy, staring Jonathan Winters, but I could be mistaken.
The IMDb also lists the following:
Blansky’s Beauties
Out of the Blue
Fonz and the Happy Days Gang
none of which are even a glimmer in my memory.
But try yourself on this one, what show did Happy Days spin off from?
According to IMDB:
“Laverne & Shirley” (1976)
“Blansky’s Beauties” (1977)
“Mork & Mindy” (1978)
“Out of the Blue” (1979)
“Fonz and the Happy Days Gang” (1980)
“Joanie Loves Chachi” (1982)
and M&M shows: “Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour, The” (1982)
Did you know that Joanie Loves Chachi is the highest rated TV show in Korean history? Some specualate that it’s because “Chachi” sounds a lot like the korean word for penis. See http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/joanie.htm.
You’ve got my office mate severely wracking his brain now…
In addition to the above:
Fonz and the Happy Days Gang (an animated series)
Blansky’s Beauties (Pat Morita in an “Arnold-like” role; the main character was supposed to Howard Cunningham’s cousin)
Out of the Blue - I’m not sure what the connection between this and Happy Days is other than that Robin Williams appeared in an episode as Mork.
I don’t think there was a Mork and Mindy spinoff, at least not with Jonathan Winters.
Also of note, Happy Days is officially a spinoff of Love American Style, but Happy Days was always conceived as a separate project but Michael Eisner (one of the co-developers of the original idea) couldn’t get the green light from ABC. Eisner managed to get the pilot run as part of Love American Style in the hopes of swinging a deal from that but it wasn’t until the success of American Grafitti that everything finally came together.
Oh, he owes me huge now. Him and a friend have been trying (for what reason, I chose not to get into) to figure these things out all weekend. Here, I get an answer in 20 minutes.
Love this place. Thanks, all
Tip of the Day: Read your links before posting them. I guess JLC wasn’t the most popular show in Korean history. I misread this the first time I read it.
Also, the link was broken (period added at the end of the URL). The one above is fixed.
monster answered correctly, with “Love, American Style,” but do you know the name of the segment?
Anyone…Beuller?
“Love and the Happy Day.” I am actually embarassed that I know this, and can offer no reasonable explanation for possession of such a useless piece of trivia.
