I posted in this thread outlining plans to start a new SDMB-like board, as a sort of breakaway. So as not to continue the hijack in that thread, and to maximise the number of views for the idea, I’ve created this thread.

Basically, for a relatively cheap price, we can get access to the latest version of vBulletin (the software this board runs on), 750gb of storage, 7500gb of bandwidth per month and 99.9% uptime, with technical support. See here, for full details. (If anybody knows of any better deals, please say.)

I know other boards exist, namely the likes of SA, and other SDMB related boards. However, SA is a bit wild, and the SDMB related boards are either centred around one person, or are geographically based. The idea is that we create a near clone of this board, with the same forum structure, but with some improvements in how things are run.

I do not mind setting the board up and paying for the first month, at least. However, I’d like to know that at least some people would participate, so I’m not throwing money away.

Is anybody interested?

Listen, I understand that the recent changes have upset people; however, please don’t start threads actively trying to get members to leave. We’ve had plenty of people start satellite boards in the past, and we’ve allowed them to announce the new boards (as long as they requested permission first–as per board rules), but you didn’t ask, and you’re certainly not setting up anything as friendly as a satellite board.
